I'm looking for a laptop with priorities being high reliability and long battery life. No graphic design, no games, no hi end features. What I will use it for is school/work stuff mostly: text documents, power point projects, internet etc. The smaller, lighter the better. Mobility is the key. Price is not an issue but I suspect it should not be too high for what I am looking for in particular.
Any advice/suggestion is appreciated, even more if someone can link me to it.

Take a look at the Dell Vostro line: Clicky
Ive been looking at these for a replacement laptop and from what I can tell they look to be decent. Something like the Vostro 1400 will likely be small enough to lug around school without breaking your back. And it can also have a discreet gfx card which could greatly help memory usage, but at the cost of battery life. Either way, Its worth looking into them.

I've got a Vostro 1400 on order for my sister, similar needs to yours. Price vs performance, you can't beat the Vostro line. If you're looking for mobility, you can shrink the screen size even more, which will also extend the battery life. Lenovo Thinkpads are probably the best overall quality notebooks out there, they cost more but it's money well spent.

As for specs, you could probably get by with just an AMD Mobile Sempron, I think they still offer it. Definitely less processing power than a Core 2 Duo, but uses less power too. That's what I have in mine, and it'll handle XP with no problems. You'll have to check out the price and battery life differences to see if it's worth dropping down to it. For a low spec laptop, avoid Vista if at all possible. 1 GB RAM is plenty for this system, 2GB is a nice extra, more than that is wasted.
