The team of the Arda Mod releases a small demo to show you fine people at CivFanatics the project we are currently working on. I am the programmer of this project, Names_are_Useless and Morboth are the 2 key components of the content and concepts of the mod. This began as their idea, and I am the implementation arm of this project. I also welcome Nylarathotep to the team, he is knowledgable on Tolkien and is helping out with content/concepts, and will be in charge of the civilopedia entries.

Out of the 10 civs available in this mod, we release only 4 for this demo. The civilopedia entries aren't created yet, and there are still some changes to be made, but this is to give you guys something to play with to see how our progression is going. The other 6 civs have been removed from this demo ;)

Available Factions:
Edain Union
Gondolin Kingdom
Angband Supremacy
Utumno Lordship

The Arda Mod developement thread:

Here are some screenshots taken from the demo:

Yeah, I realize that the Mordor banner looks a little funny, the Gondor Tree symbol is a little too big for the flag, and the leader images are a bit out of proportion, so they should be fixed

I want to thank Shqype for modding, Morboth with keeping up with me, Honom for his concept sketches, and Nylarathotep for joining recently. Without you guys, especially Shqype, this demo wouldn't even be out.

Message to the people who are playing this download: I know its not a lot of new content, but this mod is to show that the Arda Mod is not an idea's mod, as I think that's how its been viewed by most of the community. We really hope that with the release of this demo that we can gain some more support from the Civfanatics Civ4 Modding Community.

Updates for this download will most likely happen overtime, so keep an eye on this thread ;)

TheBladeRoden: Edain will become the future Gondor of the Third Age

Weasel Op: When the mod is all said and done, it will start from the First Age and end up into the Third Age ;)

Nice looking start. Keep up the good work. The more quality mods the better! :goodjob:

No the question i always make for LoTR mods. It's based in the books or in the movies?

Thanks woodelf. We are hoping that sometime in the near future you may decide to help us out in this project in some way.

Tabris, it is based on Tolkien's work, so the answer is the books and the movies (the movie's come from the books, no?). However, this is not just the third age, like most mainstream LotR fans know about, but all 3 ages.

Well, from the sight of those civilization names, I'd say Books

Though we will hopefully have models made of units that look like soldiers from the movies. For those civilizations NOT in the movies, we hope that those units will have concepts that match in well with the units that are based from the movies ;)

If I get a full tech listing I could always add Quotes, civilopedia entries, or strategy. I found that sort of fun with the Lunar Mod. :mischief:

Seriously this sounds really cool.

I love Lord of the Rings and this mod seems to have enormous potential. If you need any help, I would be glad but I won't be able to do a whole lot considering I'm also working on the Star Wars Mod (see Signiture) But very nice work guys:goodjob:

skinning units is my favourite, but you should get some proper models, try to find some mods for other games or rip of some models from, lets say "battle for middle earth" or somethng like that, so we have a base for skinning, the civ4 original models dont fit into LoTR

I realize that.

That is an interesting thought about using Battle for Middle Earth models, but I for one hate the skins from that game, so I'd say they'd need reskinned. Also, for all the First Age and most of the Second Age stuff, were going to need original models for them.

Well, that part of the process is later anyways. We still have yet to do the tech tree :crazyeye:

Maybe the Rhovanian Alliance Mod??????? They wont let you have it though because that would be stupid!

I just dowloaded the demo and are the new civilizations and leaders all thats been done? Dont mean to complain i just thaught that there were more.
Anyway i know you've still got a lot to do and i cant wait for it to be done.:goodjob:

There are more, there are 10 civilizations, but this is a "teaser," aka a sneak peak. Some people post screenshots, we provided something more "hands on." A demo, in other words.

The other 6 civs were removed for the purposes of the demo. We just wanted to show people what we were working on to get some support. Now we're working on the tech tree and units and other game concepts. This is just to show that we're not an "ideas mod" of people that just talk and get nothing done. We mean business :)

Okey, sounds good. But how far do you plan to go with this mod? Like are you going to make new lotr units when the SDK come out?
What im asking is if its going to be like a lotr scenario in the civ iv style.
Or a complete Lotr mod with all the aspects of the middle earth world, with new units, abillities, buildings, wonders and such?

I think it will be a complete LotR mod as it spans all 3 ages..:mischief:

SweetPete, in my signature I have a link to the original Arda Mod thread. Check it out, it has some discussion there. This mod is to span the 3 Ages of Tolkien's masterpiece, with virtually everything reworked, including units (later). We can't make good new units without a good modeller though, so that will have to come with time.
