When I settle in for a good session of civ I normally set goals such as 'I'll play until I research such and such tech or until I make it to the modern era'

The biggest loss of time that I have lost was sitting down one morning on my day off after driving my wife to work, and thinking that I'll just play for 2 hours, then looking at my watch just to realize that I have to pick her up in an hour. 9 hours later

Isn't it funny how you dont need to go to the toilet or to eat when you are fully engrossed in civ?

My largest Civ-induced break from reality occured about a month after buying the game. I woke up in the morning (10am) and started a game with the Egyptians. I was having so much fun that I completely lost track of the time and became puzzled when I opened the blinds to find the world outside engulfed in darkness. Seeing I had only 10 minutes to make it to the McDonalds drive thru (it was now 10:50pm), I threw on a hat and coat and drove like crazy to get some food. I was still wearing my pj's and slippers. After eating, which took 15 minutes, I got back on the computer for "one more turn". When my eyes started to lose focus, I shut off the computer. With the game off, the little clock in the lower right corner of my monitor read 5:38am (and I thought it was about 1 or 2 in the morning!). I promptly went to bed and vowed to never tell this story to anyone I knew.

BTW: That story occurred before I met my current girlfriend. I don't need a clock now, I just listen for her voice.

Her: "Come to bed dear."
Me: "I'll be in in a minute. I just have to finish something."
Her: "Come to bed NOW!"
Me: "Uh, OK honey." turn the computer off.

Your g/f ssounds like my wife. You don't live in KC, do you? Didn't think so.

Strange how simular they are.

Why, oh why, couldn't I have married someone like CT who understands this kinda thing?

 :p :)

Having someone like CT might not be a good thing. Imagine the arguements.

CT: Have you taken out the garbage yet?
T727: No, not yet.
CT Can you take it out? Dont make me moderate you again!

No, this is how it would go.

T727: Okay, okay, just one more turn.
CT: Alrighty then. That's better.

(Four hours later. . .)
CT: The garbage still isn't taken out.
T727: Okay, okay, just one more turn I said. . . .

Or......

CT: have you taken it out yet
T727: No I'm still in the middle ages and I haven't researched recycling yet so I cant do it.

I live right in the heart of the area affected by the blackout. I've travelled to another location (i.e., one WITH power). I'm going into Civ withdrawals...

You poor thing. Quick somebody bring this man a laptop with Civ3 installed. God damn it I said NOW. :D

speaking of which, has anyone here played civ3 one a labtop with a finger screen or little ball for a mouse?
does it work ok?

I used to play Civ2 on a laptop. It's a PITA without a full sized keyboard and/or a decent mouse. Moving is just two hard with just the mouse. It was an IBM Thinkpad, so I had the little eraser point. Didn't really like it. Although I found an USB keypad, it did help. I guess it depends on what you want to lug around with you.

Can't tell you how much "lost time" I've wracked up...in fact, this weekend it goes way up...wife is away on a camping trip.

BTW, she is the one who bought Civ3 for me.

I wonder if anyone will admit to wearing adult diapers like they do in Casinos, so that they don't lose their seat.

I am a hard core civ addict, but when nature calls, I don't hesitate. For anyone that doesn't know, holding it in causes bladder and rectal infections, and can give you a nasty infection in your blood, similar to tetanus.

Doctor: So you didn't go to the bathroom for 16 hours I see...
You: Yes, I -uh- didn't really feel the need to go.
Doctor: Spend $1,242,984.00 on these prescription drugs, to rid yourself of this nasty infection...pssst...and quit playing Civ so much!

Am I the only one that things this smells fishy?;)

In fact Civ is VERY , VERY addictive game . So it's not wonder I often lose track of time .

I lose track of time just browsing CFC and posting here, imagine the time sucking ability that Civ has on me.

After a twenty-five hour blackout , I am no longer worried about losing time playing -- I'm worried about losing time not playing. I only had so many candles, and it is pretty hard to read (my only source of entertainment) after the last one burns out. :(
