Glad to see we got as much land as we did. I thought we'd only manage about two more decent city sites beyond the first two that we had on my last turn.
Inherited turn - MM Istanbul for extra food and still finish the chariot, Uskudar to the silks tile for extra commerce.
Diplo check - Hey, nobody mentioned that Korea has contact with the French. They want a ridiculous amount of gold for it, though. The brokerages are still on the table, but I'll wait and see what develops with the French contact, first.
==========
England has plenty of gold (400+) but isn't buying the France contact from Korea.
950 BC: Atlanta just expanded borders Given that, I think I'll make it our first target. I need to decide now, to direct worker road-building labor. Also, horsemen can hit Atlanta in one turn's movement from Istanbul, and the other option of New York is built on a hill.
925 BC: France and Japan have bought contact with us. Wow, England CLEANED UP on brokering last turn - they have 1300 gold in the treasury and NOBODY has more than 0. So I need to get us as many techs as possible, while keeping at least 200 gold to upgrade chariots.
We get
Contact with Mongols from Japan for WM + 4/turn.
Literature from France for Contact with Mongols, WM, 1/turn.
Contact with Aztecs from Japan for Literature.
108 gold from Aztecs for Literature.
Philosophy from Mongols for Literature + 18g. (That was three resales of Literature.)
Mathematics from France for Philosophy + Contact with Aztecs.
Code of Laws, 18g from Mongols for Mathematics + WM.
Map Making, Horseback Riding, WM from America for Code of Laws + Mathematics + Philosophy.
WM, 10g from Aztecs for Mathematics, WM. (That was also three resales of Math.)
We are at tech parity except that England has a monopoly on Construction, and we have 432 gold in the treasury. How's that - six techs, a complete world map and we GAINED money.
==========
Actually, maybe I should've held off on getting Horseback Riding so we could build a few more chariots, but eh. We do have 8 to upgrade. The time to attack will be very soon now...
England demands TM + 39 gold, and I think we should pay. England completes the Great Wall, and everybody starts the Great Library.
900 BC: We upgrade 8 chariots. England now ALSO has a monopoly on Currency; I can only guess it popped from a hut.
800 BC: The time is now. The time could have been last turn, but I counted five turns since America moved a worker onto the gems tile, so right now they've just roaded it up for us.
We declare war on America. Eleven horsemen are in Istanbul ready to charge. We lose two (one to a warrior), but Atlanta is ours!
I establish embassy with England. London is one heck of a city! Size 10, no entertainers, Colossus, Oracle, Great Wall already, Great Library due in only 10 which they've gotta be a lock for.
England will not sign alliance against America even for all our gold and per-turn. I also establish embassy with Korea, but they're also no-go on an alliance.
I also send a stack of four warriors and an archer to Chicago on the north coast, and one spearman towards New York to try and pillage their iron.
America's counterattack is a warrior that kills one horseman.
775 BC: Consolidating at Atlanta and picking off some American warriors. We also attack Chicago and autoraze it with no losses.
Between turns, an American sword at New York kills the spear I sent on the pillaging mission.
==========
But - HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!
ENGLAND declares war on us out of absolutely NOWHERE!
And, they had one warrior next to Uskudar that I hadn't noticed, and it beats our warrior and captures the city! Worse - that takes our silks so Edrine riots, and we lose the HORSES too!
I pass off at the beginning of 750 BC with no units moved. Next leader gets to extricate us from this particular mess. England's got a nasty stack that's about to doom Furs R Us - I'd probably suggest abandoning the city and clearing out of there. I think we can defend against any further losses and recapture Uskudar with horsemen from Atlanta, but it's going to be dicey...
