Mac 1.17f patch out!!!

As soon as I can get the patch (max users already logged in:cry:) I'll see if this affects my ability to make maps under VPC (I use 3.0, incidentally).

No joy - nothing changed. Oh well.

I haven't loaded the patch yet since I'm about to win a game and I don't want to screw it up. Exactly what do you mean by "nothing changed?"

I mean that attempting to use the Windows editor to make maps under Virtual PC fails in exactly the same way it did before.

Patience, patience - we'll get our very own editor... someday.

Has anyone else been having more frequent crashes after installing patch? I rarely ever crashed before, but now am crashing constantly. It's occuring during my turn startup, while it is cycling through the build completions of my my cities, occuring at exactly the same city actually. I'm running Civ 3 on OS X (10.1.3), DP 450 G4, 512 RAM. Any help would be much appreciated...

Hm, people seem to be not too impressed. But I installed the patch on a Powerbook G3 400, running MacOS 9.1, and I find it is actually a huge improvement on the performance. Units don't move anymore as if the were athritic or something. Music is playing fine now, sounds are correct, and the overall gaming experience is much more fluent. I would say, this is the first really playable version of CivIII on the Mac. The game never crashed on me even once, although I am network connected and have all extensions active. Ah, life with 9.1 can be so sweet....

I am happy with 1.17f. I am running it on a TiBook 667 under OS X 10.1.3. 1152x768 support is awesome, as with improved sound and faster performance. I still have Quartz turned off, as it slows down the system noticeably (just not as much as before). No crashes nor lock ups so far.

When I click the link to the .sit file, it comes up a white screen with the text "Illegal PORT command." This is using MSIE 5.1.3F under OS X.I.III ;) (Same problem at work under IE for Windows.)

(1) Should I finish a current game before I install the patch? Will it matter?

(2) The maps posted at firaxis look interesting. I know they've been around, but will they work on the mac version of civ3?

I was having this problem on my PowerBook after installing the patch. I had bumped up the resoultion to the standard PB display, and it was crashing at certain points in the game (always at the same point, no matter how many times you reloaded). For kicks I lowered the resolution to 1024 and reloaded, and after 6+ hours it hasn't crashed once.

Can anyone verify this, or am I just insane? :crazyeyes

Civ3 working much better in OS X after the patch (I even switch on Quartz occasionally!) [iMac 500Mhtz with 356 or so meg RAM]. Have downloaded the scenarios from Firaxis' site and am playing the "Imperialism" one--generally very good. Get the occasionally "unexpectedly quit" ing; but under X I just restart and the auto-save is pretty up-to-date. Great job Brad & Co, thanx for making the experience so much better.

Now for the editor…
