Any word of PTW or Conquests release dates for the Mac? Or will there ever be any?

IMHO, there will never be any. :( PTW is certainly out of the question since its part of Conquests.

Which is a shame because they had them announced on their website at one point. They removed it some time ago, so I guess you're right, D.

I tried to glean info from tech support but they were mute, of course.

So much for the "improving" state of Mac gaming, eh?

I suppose the answer to that depends on what games you enjoy playing. There are many neat games coming to the mac, just none of them by Firaxis, atm.

Sad indeed....so what is the latest version of CIVIII available on the Mac? I have the regular CIVIII with the 1.29beta b patch. Thanks!

You've got it; 1.29b2 is the latest patch for mac Civ3. None of the expansions, PTW and C3C, have been ported over to the Macintosh.

Thanks, Dojoboy! And word has it that it'll be at least next year until CIV IV for the Mac, if then....*sigh* Oh well; guess I can try to win the game in every way imaginable!

If you're looking for a new civ challenge, try winning gold medals in the GOTM. :mischief:
Welcome to CFC, by the way :wavey:

I've had trouble loading them though, even when placed in the correct folder. Are all the GOTM's Mac-compatible? Thanks!

If you are just having trouble getting Civ3 to recognise them, go to this thread for some pointers on how to solve the problems of opening Civ3 files on a Mac. (Now added to my sig link list)

All the gotms are compatible with Mac Civ3 1.29b2 so long as you install the necessary mod files

To play gotm 1-15 there are no additional files required.

For gotm 16-23 you need to apply the full gotm23 installer to a copy of the Civ3 application folder, and you need to pay attention to the instructions about resources graphics files.

For gotm 24 and later you need the extras in the gotm24 and 25 add-on installers.

All the installers are available if you follow the link in my sig.

I have played various gotms on my Mac, including 1 (first sgotm), 8 (current sgotm), 14 (an early pilot of the sgotm format), and all recent ones since around 20. I haven't submitted them all :p

I remember a similiar attitude towards porting Heroes of might and magic III expansions. They created the original game, then created two expansions, and then later rolled them all into one "complete" release, just as was done here for Civ III. The only mac ports were the original and the complete release. Any word on Civ III complete being ported? Contract negotiations? Plans? Diplomatic agreements? Riots? Natural disasters? Barbarian uprisings? :D

Does this mean that there is no multiplayer for MAC?
Correct.

BTW it's normally "Mac", short for Macintosh, not "MAC", short for "Media Access Control" :mischief: Some people seem to get upset about it

Dont hold your breath!

They'd have to port the whole multiplayer thing, which is M$ proprietary DirectPlay technology. If we are *incredibly* lucky we *might* get Civ4. But I wouldn't bet anything on it happening 'cos that's gong to use DirectPlay as well.

Sad sad sad. I sure hope to get Civ4! By the way, I don't know why they don't port Civ3 Conquests minus the multiplayer part to Mac? It seems like that would be the difficult part to port, and I know i don't give a rip about being able to play multiplayer.

I think that's what I said, but there's a lot of denial going on here :(

What? Is this something set in stone? Civ IV is still 2-3 years away from completion. Unless Sid himself comes out and says it, I'm not going to believe it. In fact, if I do believe it, I'll probably die...

I don't believe DirectPlay prevents C3C from being ported, nor would it Civ4. DirectPlay would only prevent the PC and Mac verisons from being cross-platform in MP. I do know there has been no decision at MacSoft to never port C3C, so you could say they're undecided on the issue. But, they also don't sit around mulling over the option. My guess is that the market and potential market would have to line up in a way that MacSoft would feel a C3C port could potentially be profitable.

So, in the meantime, a mac player should not sit around and wait on C3C or Civ4. VPLtd. has ported some very good strategy games built on the empire model (World History). And, MacSoft is releasing this holiday season the "RoN Gold Edition" which includes the "Thrones & Patriots" expansion. Not a turn-based game, but it is good nonetheless.
