Mac upgrade means civ won't run

I've just upgraded from a Mac G4 to an Imac and I can no longer run civ 3. It will play the intro (with blurred graphics) and then quits.

Did you get an Intel iMac, or an iMac G5? I have an Intel iMac, and though I only played for about 2 minutes on it, just to see if it worked. It did work.

- Did you reinstall it or just drag it across from the G4?
- Have you launched it with the Command key down to check that the resolution is set correctly for your new system?

I've got the same problem - it goes to blue screen and then unexpectedly quits. Below is the report. I've got the 20 inch imac but reset the res to 1024x768 to mitigate screen size issues.

Do you have one of the new Intel iMacs as well? It looks like, on the surface, that this is a Rosetta compatibility issue. Since you're using the old, now-dead MacSoft version, there are a few very limited options.

1. Upgrade to the 1.29 beta patch and hope it works.
2. Hope a future update to OSX fixes it.
3. Try the new Civ3 Complete from Aspyr (I think it works in Rosetta, but haven't tried it yet).

SethB's comment above indicates that some version, at the very least, will load and run on an IntelliMac. Without more information about his and the other versions, and environments, however, it's difficult to suggest ways forward.

The principal difference I notice between playing C3C on my iBook (1.4? GHz G4) and my brand-new, just-arrived-today, 20" Core Duo iMac (1 GB RAM) is that it takes even longer to start up on the latter. Once it's going, I don't notice much difference (though I wasn't paying that much attention and didn't spend much time on it).

So I can certainly say that C3C works just fine under Rosetta on the new iMacs (might not work so well with 512 MB RAM). So Brad's option 3 should work, though it's the one that costs extra money.
