yes it is true that a player can only have so much civ time in the course of a month.I still think a game can be finished but the player would have to forego a high score in favour of just finishing.

My "fast" play is a product of 1000s of hours of game time.It has become intuitive and/or instintive for me.I know the tech tree inside and out,I know the terrains, the units abilities etc. When I found a city,at a glance I know how many turns it will be till size 2,how many turns for a warrior and settler...blah blah blah.

I think maybe this last gotm(12) may help.Small map with not a ton of land to settle. There isn't room for more than 100 cities or so(barring ICS of course). That still may be too many for some.

Let me make some input now as well...

If you want to continue playing the GOTM when there are only 12 players or even less, that's fine by me. I mean, when there are very few submitters, it'll be a piece of cake for me to make results. These results were done within an hour I believe!

But I think it will be best to decide that no medals are awarded in the Hall of Fame when there are less than 12 players. Otherwise it'll be too easy to get one, and that's unfair for the ex-medal winners. Don't you think so?

Furthermore, I've made a new poll which asks directly to the fate of the GOTM for Civ2.

The ex-medal winners will still be in the Hall of Fame and if they want to keep their top positions they should consider starting to play GOTM again. I really think they (esp. Starlifter, Shadowdale) don´t mind when our efforts in GOTM are still recognized with medals.;)
It´s not that the quality of the top results has decreased drastically. NOL´s finish in GOTM11 is almost equal with Shadowdale´s effort in GOTM4 and Smash and myself didn´t do too bad either. The medals are really nice and I think we should keep them!:goodjob:

I also like the idea of making some differences in GOTMs, like no goody huts, or no wonders. Just one time games to force us to play a little bit different, different shaped maps. I even like an occasional accelerated startup like we did once so we all have to deal with the same interesting situation to start the game. Not everyone will like every thing we do different, but others will.
I agree totally. Just what I was trying to tell, MORE DIFFERENCE -> MORE FUN!

What is your input on this topic?
