Malakim converting

Yesterday, i played a game as Ljosvalfar, and the malakim were my allies. But they were second ranked, and that annoyed me, so i wanted to relagate them further down. But i didn't want another enemy, so i built mercenaries. I was disappointed to see that my mercenaries couldn't pillage his land. Anyway.

Several of the malakim units (riders, archers) attacked my mercenary on both my and his ground, and i had some losses. But what surprised me the most was that he converted my mercenaries ! They became his ! I checked, and his units had no special promotions that could have been the cause of that.

Noone in the wiki, the forum or Civilopedia did i see mention of this. Is this a bug, or do the malakim convert defeated units ?

The Mercenarys have a chance of converting when they are defeated.

Mercenaries tend to flip back and forth when they get defeated.

Better to build Council of Essus and some regular troops.

Another thing- hidden nationality can not pillage, all you can do is beat down his troops.

Alright. Thanks for the answers.

Yeah, they are slated to get 2 other abilities instead (dont know if they will make it into 0.22).

1. Increased maintenance cost.
2. Their deaths don't cause WW.

whats WW?

Could mercenary armies be diversified? I would like it if there were some cavalry and siege weapons for hire, probably for more than melee troops.

Personally I liked the chance they they switch sides, but it does seem to happen too often.

WW is war weariness. So mercenaries dying wont make your people unhappy.

While I do think those make for more realistic changes, you are trading a very visible, cool ability for 2 practically invisible ones.

Could it also be possible to make it so that deploying mercenaries in enemy territory also does not cause WW?
