Can anyone help me with this?

I'm playing a game on Monarch and I'm in the year 2030.

And suddenly I'm informed that this game will only last 20 more turns, and I have to retire in the year 2050. because that's the mandatory retiriment year!!

What the heck is this all about?

It happenend in the same turn that my democratic governement was overtrown, but I don't know if that has something to do with it.

Does anyone know why this happened? Maybe this is common knowledge but I've never seen it before.

in the epic game, you have 540 turns which simulate different numbers of year. The first 50(?) simulate 50 years each, the next 50 simulate 40 years each and so on. After all, when you've started in 4000 BC, after 540 turns you will be in 2050 AD. At that time score recording stops, if no other victory option has been met by then. Victory then is estimated based on the points that you will see on the histograph.
You could play further, but no score will be recorded.. so, what ever you would gain past 2050 AD, wouldn't improve your entry in the hall of fame.
And the fact that your government has been overthrown to me seems just to be coincidental... That shouldn't be an automatic feature (my games until now all ended around 2000 AD, or prior to that date)

All games have a 540 turn limit, though I believe there IS a way to change it. In the conquests.ini there is a line "Turn Limit=540" changing that would probably do it, but another way to change what limits the end of the game, is when you're choosing your tribe, theres a "Game Limits" option. :goodjob:

Ok Thanx,

I thought that the game always ended in 2100. Wasn't that always the case in the 'normal' civ3 or am I just confused and did it always end in 2050?

I think in prior civ versions (in both??), the retirement year was dependent on level.
IIRC, in Civ1, it was 2020 for emperor, 2040 for king, 2060 for prince, 2080 for warlord and 2100 for chieftain (hope I got the names of the difficulty levels right).

In Civ3 mandatory retirement has always been 2050.

Civ 3 has always ended in 2050. I don't remember about Civ 1, but I believe that Civ 2 also ended in 2100.

Civ2 didn't end in 2100 IIRC. I think it was 2050 or maybe even 2020.

Yep, pretty sure with Conquests you can extend the number of turns through the game options screen. You'll find that interface within the opponent and difficulty selection screen when setting up a new game.
