I don't know what you guys think, but I think this needs to be revamped a little. I think it works better as a small wonder, because then you really get a better picture of how the world encountered nuclear weapons.

Basically, each nation had its own bomb project, and these were completed at seperate times (China's was well after the US and Soviets). In between there was a period where one could hold a very strong amount of bargaining power over another (that was one of the main reasons for bombing Hiroshima, to show the Russians what they were capable of). It doesn't really unbalance the game or anything, indeed I think it's more balanced since you can give the potential for nuclear weapons to civs way more powerful than you with the current model.

I think it could work well as a tech. It was harder to research for the first ones (USA) but with time, it takes less time to research.

yeah, really good point :goodjob: i like the idea of it being a small wonder

I like these Ideas too. I always thought that it being a great wonder was stupid. However I think they did this to ensure that the person who builds the manhatten project first doesn't automatically win due to their all powerfull nuclear military. You would have to make sure you watched this, because (unlike in real life) a civ player has no quams about nuking a player with no way to defend themself.

Indeed, I think building Manhattan project ia a disadvantage. You lose shields for, what, giving your opponent a new weapon? Ya right. Great idea! I get a few culture / turn, which I could have use for building a big army to kill somebody, great deal! :D

In fact, it makes more sense as a tech because people can sell the nuclear secrets to other players.

The thing is, with the current project you still need to actually research the specific technologies in order to actually use the nuclear weapons. This limits which civs can use them, but I think most people just can't be bothered to waste time building a wonder that doesn't benefit them more than their opponents.

Also nuking a country shoud force it to submit. In civ 3 you could nuke a city but only after you have captured a few cities of the rival civ would they feel it necessary to submit to ur demands in a peace treaty. However an intelliget AI would understand the potential threat the other nation is posing even when it becomes nuclear power, let alone nuking one of its cities and hence try to declare peace immediately.

But obviously, it means and hence I am in favour of, the manhattan project *not* being a great wonder.

It should be a minor wonder, but it should have some sort of generic name, like Atomic Bomb Project or something..

I concur with it being a small wonder. There should probably also be a hydrogen bomb small wonder to enable ICBM usage, but that's nitpicking.

I'd say it should have its own tech, and a small wonder - to represent having the theoretical knowledge to build a nuke, and the infrastructure to actually carry out its construction.

Ive never liked the idea that once you ahv developed the Manhatten Project that you also give the technology to all other civilizations including that neighbour who you have been at war with for last 2000 years or so. Each civ should hav to develope it seperatly or trade ot of another as they do with all other techs etc.

Here's my idea:
There are three parts to developing nuclear weapons- a new tech, the Manhattan Project, and a Nuclear Weapons Project small wonder. The small wonder can only be constrcted once any civ has already built the great wonder and they have the technology. The Manhattan Project should also count as a Nuclear Weapons Project, so the civ that build it can immediately start building nukes, but the other civs still have to create their own projects.

For more realism a civ shouldn't be able to trade the tech until they have a completed Project, and to make building the Manhattan Project worth the expense it should immediately produce two or three tactical nukes.

I like the idea of it being a small wonder rather than a great one for all the reasons mentioned, but I think that you should not have tactical nukes at the beginning but had to have a dedicated bomber (or an immobile bomb unit that has to be loaded onto a plane) since it took a long time for rocket technology to be developed to a good enough degree.
