Hello

How can I go about obtaining the instruction mannuel for Civ 2? I bought the game on the $9 shelf and it only comes with the chart and the game in a case. I know how to play and play often but there is some little things I would like to know. I don't want the strategy Guide but the real mannuel.

Thanks
Adam

You are better off asking questions here than consulting the manual: such things as JSBach affecting all cities and not just one continent are incorrectly mentioned in the manual. More details on topics such as trade bonus formulas are better explained online at CFC and Apolyton.Net.

There is a surprising amount of game info in the Civlopedia.Just about everything in the manual is covered..maybe even better than the manual is some cases.

Smash, I've found that the civolopedia in quite a few cases is incorrect. The description of some wonders are wrong, at least one of the techs' research path is wrong (I screwed up once because of it:( ), and some of the improvements have blurry descriptions. Still, it's good if you just want quick info about research paths, descriptions of improvements and wonders and not the exact effects.

I can't remember which tech it was, but once when I didn't have a Tech Tree available, I used the civolopedia to backtrack which techs I needed for a certain tech and I remember that I got really confused when it said I needed a tech for the advance, didn't have it, but still could research the advance.

Maybe my memory of it is wrong though, so don't take my word for it, maybe I solved it later without remembering it.

IIRC ElephantU is right: there are many mistakes in the civilopedia but the tech tree is correct.

Could be you had a follow-on tech (like PT follows Horse) that meant you did not need the earlier one. Part of my Early Landing strategy now is to try to skip as many of the earlier techs as possible. If you follow the peaceful path to Monarchy, Trade, Philosophy and Medicine, you can build MarcoPolo early and trade with the AI civs for techs that skip Horse, Pottery, Masonry, and WarCode. Sometimes later on you can pick up Feudalism and Chivalry, and a few times I've traded for MonoTheism (which is actually off-path to spaceship, but worth it for bigger cities) without having PolyTheism.

If you are not sure about tech paths there is a thread called "Grand Tech Plan" where I documented a tech path to spaceship, with diversionary notes for war techs and breakpoints like RR changing caravan delivery bonuses.
