If you're Mansa Musa in multiplayer and you can't feasibly skirmisher-rush someone (because of distance, etc.) you are at least almost assured of being safe from a war target since no one wants to war against a skirmisher army early.

Immortals and quechas still scare you though . More so immortals, quechas only discourage YOU from attempting to rush or choke THEM...but still worth noting that one should not attack Inca with skirms.

Somehow this thread, to me, invokes the idea of truly unrestricted leader/nation/ub combination with Churchill of Mali whose UB is the Totem Pole. Now that's something I'd try out for kicks. Those skirmishers would get so much mileage that it'd be pointless to build anything else until siege and even then I'd use Skirmishers as the staple of my armies because they're so cheap in comparison.
Not very much if at all, however I replied specifically re: multiplayer. Humans will.

Churchill of Mali is basically enough on its own. Your units start with counter promos if desired and quickly hit lvl 3 and 4. They blast non-UUs...basically nothing wants to fight them and their extra first strike chance, base str, and cheap hammer cost for a long time.
The only way to get remotely favorable conversions vs skirms is either to have a UU that's good vs archers or using catapults/horse archers (or something like swords, but HAs are preferred) vs the larger stacks. Skirms win the #'s conversion game, but local superiority can cause them trouble, and horse archers ignore their first strikes (and without lvl 3 they can't take formation). Probably their most dangerous aspects are their defensive abilities and very early rush + choking. It takes time to assemble a concentrated military + siege, and before that it is very difficult to dislodge choking skirmishers. If they hit before one has a lot of strategic resource units, they could well wind up taking out the resource (assuming it isn't below a city) and choking. Archers are terrible vs skirms...even moreso vs protective skirms.
They're problematic to deal with but on faster game speeds serve more as a deterrent than an offensive troop in competent MP...good players won't let you camp their BFC hills and if they get chariots or axes they will use travel time against you to punish you for moving on flat land. It's still not pretty though, so people do shy away from mali usually.
