I'd assume colonization maps are different but not extremely different. Anyone know if there is a way to convert a civ4 map to colonization without having to remake it from scratch?

No way to know for sure at the moment. Graphics have changed, and there might be some new terrain types in Civ4Col. I don't think you'll be able to just copy&paste a Civ4 map and run it in Colonization just like that.

Besides, remember that basically all resources are new. I don't know how Civ4Col would interpret a hill with uranium, a jungle with bananas, plains with game or an ocean square with an oil source. Same thing viceversa, as Civ4 wouldn't understand cotton, furs nor tobacco, among others.

Can't copy paste, for starters, Col has marshes. Also, the europe zones need to be defined, and the MAX_PLAYERS setting in the DLL is different to Civ4 so you need to add extra team/player defines at the top. :)

But it's not hard to convert maps, just gotta remember the bits to do.

Different graphics wouldn't be a problem. It's not like a civ4 worldbuilder save says 'ocean' and colonization worldbuilder saves says 'really nice ocean'. Resources would be different but it could just not load them and I've heard of mashes/swamps but col not having something that a civ4 file does have would be a problem, not the other way around.
I'm not saying you should be able to load a civ4 wbs into colonization and use it right away, but it's hard to believe they'd be so different that a program couldn't do some partial conversion. It's not like I'm looking to have it convert a Starcraft map into a civ map, they're still even both called CIV4.
