Map editor not loaded properly, is it ME or is it me?

I have a prob with the map editor facility in my edition of Civ 3 compleate loaded to my home pc running on windows ME. When I try to access the map editor hoping to edit perhaps a real world map (!) I have to get past a series of error messages telling how this or that file is not present before being able to see an incomplete map with only forests showing...
Why and what can be done? I have tried reloading civ 3. Is it caused by the operating systems in efficiency?

uhhh...try uninstalling and reinstalling.... I'm stumped on that one. But when in doubt, reinstall!
