Map/Scenario Problems

Hello,
I just downloaded a map for Civ 3. This map (-> http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=9829 )

I started the game and choose the map but I get a message saying the file might be corrupt. I have no idea what I did wrong... Is it possible that no maps work for the Macintosh version of the game? I also can't install any scenarios. Do you have any ideas what I am doing wrong?

It loads up fine here. I'm running Aspyr's Civ3 Complete on a Mac Pro with Leopard 10.5.2.

There isn't just one Macintosh version of the game. It's difficult to say what you might be doing wrong without some more information about your configuration, and what you *are* doing.

Hello Alan, thank you for your quick reply.
I am also using Leopard 10.5.2. My current version of the game is 1.21g (that is what is standing in the lower left corner). Maybe I have put the map/scenario file in the wrong place..
This is how my Civ 3 file looks like.

Well, I would have put it in the 'Scenarios' folder, but it probably doesn't matter. Note that there are a couple of Earth maps in there already. I seem to recall at least one of them was by Maria Singer.

I don't even have 1.21g still installed, and 1.29b2, which is the only vanilla version I do have, won't even run in Leopard on an Intel Mac. Are you running on a PowerPC?

No, it's an Intel PC... Where do I get a different version, the vanilla version for example. Maybe I need a different version.

1.21 *is* vanilla. That's just a local term used for the old original version of Civ3 (or of Civ4) before the expansion packs were released. The map you are trying to load is designed for version 1.29f (a Windows version that is file-compatible with Mac version 1.29b2). That is probably the reason why it fails to load in 1.21g, which had fewer features.

Your version 1.21g is upgradable to 1.29b2 using the updater linked in my signature. i.29b2 is the only MacSoft version I have currently. But, as I say, that doesn't run on my Intel Mac, so you may not want to do it. At least make a copy first before upgrading.

That range of 'vanilla' Civ3 software was published by MacSoft years ago. Since then Aspyr took over the franchise and released Civ3 Complete a couple of years ago, which contains the Play the World and Conquests expansions. You would have to buy that if you want to try it, but at least I can confirm that it does run that scenario, and that it runs on my Mac Pro.
