Does anyone knows some good map script that give some kind of "mediterrean" feel?
Alternatively, what script do you people use?

I just play with the 4 scenario maps. I find that different positions on each map offer different challenges. The maps are well thought out and offer hours of game play.

The best you're going to get, in my opinion, are one of the inland sea maps if you want a Mediterranean feel, can't really recommend one over the other as they are all pretty much small variations of the same theme.

I wouldn't recommend anything without an ocean as late game TAM can be highly dependent on sea trade via the trade barge, unless they were to introduce a land based trading unit.

I never play TAM on a random map, always on one of our HUGE maps.
The whole point of playing TAM is to revisit the ancient world and to experience it as closely as possible.

Ambrox and the team continue to work hard at balancing the various TAM maps, they will get better and better as we continue to work out the BTS engine with the old TAM vanilla

I've got no problem with the maps the team has made. It's just after a while premade maps are formulaic and predictable. But I guess that explains alot of the mod's imbalances.

I really like this mod, however...

I have to second that motion, by Soam, for after playing the premade maps 2-3 times it became too easy in gameplay. I knew who to hit and when, where, and what they had for resources. I also knew who would become powerful, who was weak. From a historical perspective, perhaps accurate (maybe) and an interesting way to learn something interesting, but from a gaming perspective this is not a renewable resource, so to speak.

So I play random maps. Anyway, would if be possible to step away from the argument that the game has to appear 100% historical and find a compromise? I don't know anything about how maps can be generated, or designed, but would it be possible to have the same premade maps but with random resources? Just an idea...I would like to play on the map of the Med if I could, but it got to easy after a while. You can turn the difficulty up of course, but after Monarch the computer storms into your lands with 35 unit armies and collateral damages your ass to nothing.....anyway, the game has still been fun on Monarch wtih random maps despite its beta status.

wayeward and soam,

I can tell you this much that the entire game is being reworked to bring the play balance to where its a fun historical challenge from any Civilizaitons point of view. The historically strong empires will have some beginning advantages, but not enough that they cant be overcome by the minor Civs.

The priority at TAM is historical scenarios first, random second. Until the TAM scenarios are balanced and correct, there will be very little work on Random Map issues. The whole point of this MOD is "The Ancient Mediterranean" not the "The Random Mediterranean".

However having said that. Once the original game is balanced and those issues are worked out, they should lend themselves well to the Random maps as well.

I can understand the desire to make something as close as possible to the historical periods in which these civs existed... but it would be good to bear in mind that one of the reasons why the Civilization series (and mods like FFH or civ 3's Rise and Rule) did so well was because gameplay was not limited to the world maps that inspired each game (Earth in our case, Erebus for FFH), and players could choose random maps if they wanted. Just a thought.

But, like i said, you don't even need to go that far, a map of the MED with random resources/terrain would likely do the trick.

First things first, random things randomly!! :king:

TAM is not limited to scenarios. With scenarios, you can play it realistically. If you are bored of them you are by no means bound to stick to them and you can play any random map you want. Inland Sea is the one that most resembles Mediterranean, but you can also play Highlands with high sea level. Do not play any of these 2 with unlocked map borders because they become crappy. Another alternative is Pangaea with Natural shores and medium sea levels.

For your map needs refer to this post: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=246788

yeah my favorite is either highlands or inland sea ;)

I'd recommend the Tectonics.py mapscript. It includes both a nice Mediterranean option and an "Old World" Terra version, on top of having nice looking land forms.

wait...."random things randomly!!"....Greywarden, what does that mean? Are you drinking and posting again?:crazyeye:

Onedreamer, did you talk to Laurino back a few months ago?

Nobody here has heard from him in some time, have you?

Nope, he just disappeared. Happens, on the internet. I assume he will be back sooner or later.

I've been playing with the creation script (orginally for the FFH mode) and I think it's quite nice once you mod the starting locations (so i.e. Carthage or Minoans actually start on sea :) )

Try Tectonics with the Mediterranean option. Map Scripts forum.
