A harddrive crashed caused me to lose my .biq file that I used when playing with 31 civs. I recreated a new one with settings of 190 x 190, but it seems a little tight. Any idea on what the standard size should be for 31 civs?

With Civ3 map dimensions, 228x228 would be just over exactly double 160x160 in tiles.

If you're playing Vanilla, huge is 180x180, so double would be about 256x256. But you'll also run into the 512-city limit at this size, and probably the 2048-vanilla-unit-limit as well.

Map tiles:
std = 100x100 = 10000; 5000 tiles in CAII; 240 CF (1.0); 1x
huge = 160x160 = 16960; 12800 tiles in CAII; 400 CF (1.66); 2.56x
sup200 = 200x200 = 40000; 20000 tiles in CAII; 530 CF (2.21); 4x
sup250 = 250x250 = 62500; 31250 tiles not tested; 650 CF (2.71); 6.25x
sup362 = 362x362 = 131044; 59006 tiles in CAII; 750 CF (3.125); 11.80x tiles of std.

BIQ means C3C, so you do not have a 2048 limit. The big thing to me is to be sure to boost the cost factor to match the map size. Note that the culture will default back down, so you may want to set it to at least 200k on a 250x250.

I usually find 200x200 to be good for 31 civs (60% water). You will run in to the city limit if you start to get too big. As Vxma says you should be sure to bump up the cost factor and the culture requirement for 100k. OCN should be bumped as well.

I used a 200x200 once, but it is not a good size, IF you want to play AW on a pan. You risk getting too many civs coming at once. It should be better than 250x250 for non AW.

512 limit is very useful for AW players as it helps slow down those Emp/DG civs a bit.

Yeah I left out the OCN, but it is not as important as the CF. Culture, it depends as I have played a number of 250x250 AWE and not had an issue with culture at 100K. If it defaulted to huge's 160K, that would be ok.

Well yes, most people don't play every game as AW. I mostly use 200x200 since each civ has a fair amount of room for growing, and it still fills all the way up without gaps in between cities (well, no gaps larger than the ones the AI normally has :lol:).

The map sizes in CCM (31 civs) are:

Huge: 260 x 240
Large: 240 x 220
Standard: 226 x 226

Even with the size huge the 512 city limit was never reached, as in desert, tundra, marsh, volcano and mountain-terrain, the founding of cities in CCM is not allowed.
