Greetings all.

After hours of regenerating maps (not all at one time but over the last year) I ran across mention of the mapfinder mod and downloaded it according to the instructions on this site. The instructions I find in several places tell me to open a game with the settings I desire then to hit ALT-M while in game which is supposed to start generating maps.

However when I do this in game ALT-M opens a reminder box where I can enter the number of turns until a reminder pops up and I can enter some text to appear in my reminder. I've tried all variations of ALT-M I can think of, none work.

Can someone suggest how I can start mapfinder running?

For the record I followed the download instructions, mapfinder appears to be in the correct folder and the in game option for mapfinder is enabled. I clicked CTL-ALT-O for the BUG mod options, the second tab is Map and the option halfway down enables mapfinder. It was already enabled when I checked it and has been enabled each of the several times I have restarted the game.

Clearly I'm missing something simple.

Thanks in advance!

Ctrl-Alt-G

Some of the info on those instructions is dated.

If you run mapfinder in Window 7 (or Vista, I think) you have to run it in windowed mode.

To do this, you have to go to this folder:
C:\Users\PattonTwo\Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword and change the CivilizationIV and CivilizationIV.ini file.

On the line that says:

Code:
; Specify whether to play in fullscreen mode 0/1/ask
FullScreen = 1

Change it to "ask" and save. When running Mapfinder, choose no when asked after launching BTS.

Just in case, set this to "1":

Code:
; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 5

This will help if your game crashes. I also set the auto save to "1000" from "5".

Crossed posts... what he said :D

Shulec, I'm glad you thought to mention the full screen vs. windowed mode. For windows 7 you need to be in window mode or the screen caps do not work. While you are still generating valid saved games, without being able to see the screenies, it is hard to use. Figuring out why the screenies do not work had me scratching my head.

You can swap between full screen and windows from the Options menu within the game (under graphics). In either event, you need to restart the game between switches.

Thanks to you both. My computer is now merrily creating saves for me. I'll follow the windowed mode instructions as well.

Appreciate the help!
