Yellowstone is actually not bad if you stay in Grand Teton and simply drive to Yellowstone. They are only about 15 miles or so away from each other.

Grand Teton is gorgeous. Yellowstone was...Well, the geothermal features are gorgeous, but the land around it is actually pretty ugly, compared either to Wydaho or the Northwest. I hear Glacier is stunning, but I haven't gotten there yet.

I have never been further east than the west coast, but I do want see Yellowstone at some point

Well I did not see Scotland coming until the leaks but I think it makes a good entry into the map (R&F map will be out on Release day) so how sure is everyone that the last civ is Mapuche

I'm pretty confident. The clues seem to point that way. Headband Guy is too lacking in gold to be a Sapa Inca, and a Polynesian civ just seems unlikely to me with South America so empty. Plus we've only had two civs indigenous to the Americas so far and both are geographically North American.

Most pictures of Lautaro show him with a feathered headband though. Small detail but I feel it’s unusual to remove something that would make him stand out from the crowd.

Something I haven’t seen suggested yet is the Taíno under Enriquillo. Note the hair length and headband...

The Taino are even harder than the Mapuche to pull off, the Taino language is not that well attested, despite contributing loanwords to Spanish/English/etc. I guess they could've picked a related Arawakan language, but South America would be without a new Civ then (I don't consider the Caribbean part of SA). I would have thought Firaxis would pick Anacaona as the leader, even though we don't know too much about her.

It's important to note that all the depictions of Lautaro were drawn long after his death. This gives Firaxis free reign in how to depict him. Perhaps, the artist they hired thought the feathered headband to be anachronistic. It could also be a different Mapuche leader.

If headband guy turns out to be European, I will be disappointed....:(

I'd be happy with a Civ from Polynesia as well, considering we at least know we will be getting some indigenous SA people in the future anyway. :D

Maybe it needs to be memed.

Politically, the modern Caribbean has stronger ties to North America, but the indigenous people of the Caribbean were more closely related to South America (though they may have colonized southern Florida). Still, I think the Mapuche or the Tupi/Guaraní are the obvious picks for a not-Inca South American civ. There's also the Muisca, but if covering part of South America that isn't already covered is a concern, the Muisca would be very close to the Inca to the south and the Maya to the north. (Of course, the Tupi or Guaraní are made unlikely by Brazil, sadly.) I think any of them would be interesting, though.

For sure, the indigenous Caribbean peoples had linguistic ties to Northern South America. I just think people today usually consider the Caribbean islands to be part of North America geographically.
I still prefer having the Muisca in the game instead of Gran Colombia....:p And I would add either Tupi or the Guarani too in addition to Brazil.

Sure, I think they're all pretty interesting, though I'm less familiar with South American Natives than Meso or North America. But if they're looking to expand the representation of South America, Tupi overlap with Brazil and Muisca are pretty close to the Inca, so I think that gives the Mapuche an edge. (If we got the Muisca, though, maybe we could see emeralds as a new luxury. :D )

I would at least maybe like a Spanish speaking post-colonial nation, Gran Colombia seems like the best option at this point. :p
If the Mapuche do come, then Argentina is out. And I'd rather not Mexico or Cuba.

Gran Colombia only has Simon Bolivar going for it. :p Gran Colombia and Muisca can both be added to the game. No need to rule one out due to geography. :smug:

Simon Bolivar is more reason to have Gran Colombia than what the other post colonial nations have anyway. :p
I'm not necessarily ruling anything out due to geography, but Argentina would be less likely. And all they have going for them is pop culture/first lady Eva Peron, who never actually led in my opinion.

How about General San Martin?

Did he actually ever lead? Still I prefer Gran Colombia and Simon Bolivar would fit that role of a liberator leader.
