Marathon Speed please!

I can't play even epic as I feel thats to fast. I propose 6 speeds.

Revolution
Quick
Normal
Epic
Marathon
Immortal

Immortal being around 2500 turns :-)

Thats good, epcially since in one of the interviews they said they were hoping the civ rev, would bring a few new gamers to civ V, let them have thier super quick speed, and lamely small maps.

How many of you guys have actually finished a marathon game. Must admit I never completed any of the 20 odd games I played at marathon. I would get to the point where I knew I was going to win, quit the game and start another.

Those huge end game turns were the pits and spoiled an otherwise good game. maybe 1UPH will fix this problem.

Ha!, Yes i am the same, once im thrashing everyone i simply cant be bothered anymore. Have finished several though. (this is mostly due to the sickening level of micromanagement for really big empires and in the late eras, a good way of combatting this i found, is to put most of your cities on automate production, only thing you need to do is put units in every now and then.

I'm glad you like it! Firaxis are yoiu listening:lol::lol:

I never had a problem with the speed, even at the end it took way less than a second for each turn. My main issue that it all went to fast at the end.

I also like to play with marathon speed and huge map size :)

I havent, but i must say that my point is to actually play the game, not necessarily finish it.

After the first year, I never finished anything but Marathon games because I never played anything but. I just did fewer turns per day. But, I finished a ton of Marathon games.

I quite liked the endgame in Civ IV.

Marathon all the way!

I like to get some good use out of various techs/units before they're obsolete.

Civ isnt Civ if it isnt a long trek, for me anyway.

I would like the Devs to consider having another game speed/mode where the game never ends.
Sorta like Mastery victory with no time/turn limit. "The Never Ending Story" lol

This way you can play space race victory, have all the culture (victory) you want, build the U.N. and all the other Civ5 equivalents of these victories/modes without it ending the game!

No more sticking to conquest...

I think marathon is great because it lets a lot of time to enjoy ancient era and makes very ancient wars (pre-iron) possible. I would be very disappointed if there were no such time settings.

I think you all are mad, but I agree with the fact that various gamespeeds is a must.

Marathon is lovely. I like building/conquering my way to a 50-100 city empire that spans two continents over the course of 24/36 hours. Separate sessions, of course. At this point a turn would take several minutes, but I'll also be on possession of the most productive cities in the game, so winning the space race usually isn't far off. Or domination ;)

Tentative confirmation that there will be four game speeds in Civ5:

Okay, fair enough. First, you get my standard disclaimer: This stuff isn't finalized yet. This is what is in my latest build, and could change, but this is closing in on final. And I'm not going to give you details on what each of these things are, but you can speculate, and will have more info soon.

There are three different land types (and random.) There are six different map sizes from teeny to gigantic, plus random. There are eight different difficulties and four different game speeds.

We are constantly updating the graphics and they are not finalized completely yet - with a good graphics card the rivers blend well with the landscape. (Although referring to the Newcastle shot, what do you think of that river? I can get more info on that if you would like.)

I'm not going to tell you what the tents are because there will be more details on tile improvements in the future, but suffice it to say it's an improvement that you can build around your city (like farms, for example.)

In Civ4BTS the game speed choices were quick, normal, epic and marathon, so I'd say a pretty good chance these will stay the same or similar.

3 land types? Only 3? WTH, I hope Sirian is getting a move on with those map scripts.

I suspect this means the flavour of the landscape as in there are three distinct graphical styles for plains, three for grasslands, etc, designed to look like, say, African Savanna, South American Pampas or Asian Steppes.

That doesn't make sense in that context though. map sizes, difficulty levels, game speeds...and graphics? No, he was talking about map types here.

I believe they did confirm that different continents could have different graphics on the same type of terrain

to be fair, that was a problem on all speeds with all civ installments.
playing out a certain win just IS boring.
