What is the latest turn that you can declare your WoI and still win the game? Is it dependent on the size of the REF? I've seen folks say that it can take the king 50+ years to send over all his waves. If I don't declare by turn 225ish I'm at risk of not winning due to time?

It's highly variable. Depends on the REFs size, how quickly the King can shuttle his troops over to the New World, how swiftly you can move yours and engage his, and the general size of your territory, among other things.

No kidding, I've run out of time in both the games I've played so far. The first I would have won in another 6-10 turns depending how quick the king was with his last wave. It's frusterating.

I won my first WOI with less than 10 turns to spare. I was glad the king was busting moves to get troops over to die faster.

I would recommend not bothering attempting to sink MOWs unless you think you can take them all, because then you'll just slow down the ground invasion. I took out one MOW out of 10 in my game and ended up thinking it was pointless and could've caused me to run out of time.

I declared independence on turn 261 at Explorer difficulty level, facing a total REF of 471 units, and won the game on turn 292. That was cutting it a bit fine so I'd be interested to hear other experiences on this.

Was needing about 50 or so on epic (so say maybe 30 on normal). I think it would make more sense to have 300 years to declare and then just let the war play out since you do end up being at the mercy of the Kings replenishment rates and ship count.

All my epic wins thus far (explorer and conquistador diffs) I had around 75 turns left in the game (started the revolution with over 100 turns to go - out of 450) when I defeated the Kings army. My one actual lose I ran out of time without even declaring since my cities were too large.

I found the same thing, the timelimit comes too soon. There is a mod that increased the number of turns by 100 %. Its called Band-aid, I am playing it now. Turnnumber is about 170 so I'll have to wait to see what happens at 300.

Anyway, the mod (claims to) remove a few bad points: education, turns and the mothercountry getting an oversized REF (though I'm not sure if the latter is not cheating).
