mb2-a space oddity

Hooray could you post a sreenshot so i know where to start from. thx. Looks good so far. Ill play it sometime this afternoon.

Well, all right. Here:

mb2ArabOttoman.JPG

This shows our position relative to the Ottomans. There's plenty of nice land to the Southeast that we should try to snatch up after filling in our peninsula. Right now it's barb country, though.

I feel sorry for the Ottomans. They're stuck between a jungle and a desert. They're not growing anywhere near as fast as we are. Plus, they're being hindered by barb camps nearby.

Hmmm... The Ottomans are a scientific CIV...nice.
Vbraun: No pressure to play quickly. When you are ready.

Ok I got it now. Dang thats a lot of wines
I think we should start to send are settlers with escorts becuase of the barbarians. Any one have a dot map?

I can't dot map the save right now as I am at work and I don't have my PTW disk. I see no real opportunity to use RCP on this map, and therefore I would just try to keep a fairly consistent spacing of around 11 to 12 tiles per city.

It's fairly clear that our expansion will need to be southeast, and the Gems near the Barbs are very inviting. Nevertheless, rather than rushing to get there I would just build towards that area, and if we don't get there in time to settle peacefully, it will just become an early objective for our first war.

What I would say though is that we are going to need a shed load of boats, and that means settling coastal cities now.

I do think that our setllers will need warrior escorts. Our early settler gave us a kick start, which should allow us this luxury, but there is also the option to return the exploring warriors home to do that job. I cringe at the cost and time required to build spears to do this job, though 3 and 5 shield cities could be used.

How many workers do we have? If its less than 5 then I would build some directly after the current group of settlers complete.

These are just my thoughts vbraun. There is no pressure on you at all to take any notice of me :)

Wow Ted, well spotted. When removing and building the two landbridges I had to delete two wine tiles. To keep the lux balance the same I replaced them in their closest location, but I forgot to reassign the BG's.

I'm not quite to crackers' standard in map building, it's more difficult than you think.

Here's a suggestion

MB2-dotmap-2150BC-small.jpg

A larger version > here < (72Kb).

The Blue site (from earlier dotmap) would probably give us contact with the civ across the strait - you can just see the border :)

The Reds can be settled in natural order as & when.

regards

Ted

OK. I think this is in principle what we might do. (Sort of).

Please pull it to pieces. ;)

Oh, certainly. I agree completely. There are only five: three up near Baghdad, and two near Damascus. I wanted to build more, but my focus was mostly on Settlers. The Settler in Medina could probably be switched to something else since it hasn't been in production very long, so it might not waste any shields.

Ted Jackson's dotmap is good, except for the blue dot. It would be on top of a BG. Moving one space SE would lose the fish, but we'd keep the BG. I guess it's just up to the next player's judgment.

Teds map is better than mine.

Although settling on a BG is not usually a good idea, I think the benefits in this case outweigh the drawbacks. The fish helps, but as Ted says, mainly its a way of gaining a contact without a boat. Contacts are important because we will probably trade up to the Lit, code of laws bit of the tree b4 we're ready for war.

But it is up to the judgement of the individual player as you say :)

The SE spot would still get us contact across the water. Of course, even that might not work. We'd have to pray that the AI actually moved a unit into range.

I've played England on a real world map before, and I spent a lot of time just sitting there waiting for a French or German unit to appear so I could make contact.

Sure. That's fine. :)

I guess vbraun has a lot to think about, if he hasn't played already.

I did play before the dot maps were made... Good Luck whoever the next player is.

You mentioned trading with India and Babylon. Are the dates you traded with them the same dates you came into contact with them?

*loads the save*

My god, we're actually ahead of Babylon and India in tech. I'm sure that'll be short-lived, though. Hmm, Ottomans are ahead by IW...

Brewster: You're UP!

Well, it being the weekend and all, I haven't given my SG's the attention they deserve. Sorry about that. From scan reading the thread it looks like this game is going great.
