am i the only one that thinks its kida strang to have all ur units as mech infantry(not all byt the infantry ones) i mean mech infanrty shold be spereat from the infantry line. ifnaty shold upgrad into a shot infantry type unit. and ther shold be an early version of mehc infanrty that comes with moterized traspo.. something like moterized infantry?
allso what about ww1 era tanks and aircraft?? same for 1700's era units

it skips right past musket men, into the civil war, then right past ww1 into ww2!

(the musket men in the game are hand canonters

I agree. Although the regular Mech Infantry would have looked much better with a few soldiers running alongside it.

ya, not a bad idea.... i dont like seeing nothing but tanks, trucks ect on the map.. it looks so boring

allso waht about early aa defens??? how about flack guns or aaa befor the develpment of rockets?? aaa guns chold come in with repacble parts.
and we allso need some kinda moble aa gun
maby based of the german willbly(spelling :P) aaa tank or flack 88

and as for futer ages maby some type of misle luncher on armod car

Do what I do - use Balou's modern infantry, and have infantry upgrade to those. You can have them come a bit earlier in the tech tree if you like. Theres not too much room in the late industrial and modern ages for all the stuff on the historical line - too much progress in too short of a time frame to include stuff from every period.

Actually, the definition of infantry is a foot soldier. So motorized infantry wouldn't really work, but you can get some really cool units, like the last unit available in "Double your Pleasure" Its awesome loads of armor and dual lasers.

I believe the US and the Soviets both tried out "Motorized" infantry in the late 80's and early 90's. The US 9th ID was designated "Motorized" as opposed to "Mechanized" and was to be equipped with FAVs and other fast-moving, lightly armored vehicles. The idea was to have a unit that could deploy quickly like the RDF units (82d ABN, 101st AAD) but with some more punch, not just paratroopers. If memory serves me correctly, the experiment was a no-go, although today the "striker" battalions embody the spirit of what they were trying to achieve.

Yes, this is a very important issue. There must be foot infantry in addition to the "mech" infantry. The Modern Infantry graphic so far is the unrivaled graphich to use for making this unit.

The unit has to have 2 movement though or it is too hard to make it useful.

Anti-tank weapons are fairly capable at stopping the vehicluar combat units(except for possibly the M1Abrams). Infantry can often utilize these.

I made it so Infantry doesn't upgrade to mech infantry, upped stats of both, and cost of mech infantry

And I gave infantry amphibious assault (not as good stats as marines, who are also hidden nationality) to make them better

I was thinking of a Natonal Guard unit that had more defense but less offense and movement than Mech Infantry. Stats would be 6/22/1. It would be available with Synthetic Fibers.

yes, i to was thinking of a infanrty unit that chold come with senthtic fibers

I just modded the game so that Infantry does not upgrade to Mechanized Infantry. If only i could make the MI carry foot soldiers (i am currently trying this by the way) ;)
I made the same regarding Tanks and MA's. Makes it more realistic (IMHO, all non-human unit should not be upgradable: e.g.: Galleon to Transport, Infantry to MI, etc.)

You can make a land unit transport other land units. But:
1. The AI won't use it that way.
2. IIRC you then can't load the MI onto transports (can't transport a transporter)

Interesting... that should make for a very different game! Have you tried it out? Sounds kind of wierd.. but cool...

It is interesting that everyone seems to agree on the synthetic fiber idea. When I added the Modern Infantry I made it came with that technology.

Btw, I have an attack infantry and am working on adding a defensive infantry(probably machine gunner type infantry). However I can't find any good graphics for this one, it needs to look as modern as possible.

The attack one has an assault rifle and has these stats as of now:

20attack(might tweak this if needed)/15defense/2move

100 shields

Requires: Rubber

Note I increased mech infantry's attack to 16 and may increase it to 17.

I use moder armor as the base unit since it was one of the only correctly balanced modern units to begin with.

Also I have a
Commando Marine: 21attack/15defense/2move
110 Shields Requires: Rubber
Can conduct amphibious attacks

Special Forces Paratrooper 20/attack/16 Defense/2move
110 shields Requires: Rubber, Oil
Can paradrop

Lol, both of those use the marine/paratrooper graphics still....

If I added a defensive infantry it would probably have about:

16 attack/17defense/2move

100 shields Requires: Rubber, Aluminum(maybe to make it different)

I think the game should "cushion" when it comes to resources. What I mean by this is there should be more levels of unit power, especially in the modern era when it comes to resources.

For example if you are missing just one resource needed to build modern armor you shouldn't be stuck attacking with mech infantry which has 12 attack or tanks(going by the game's default vanilla mode).

The national guard idea is an idea with much potentional I think.
