As most of my ideas are half-cooked anyway, but here is an idea to throw up:

I was thinking that there should be a "Member of the Week" thing in the forums so the mods and admin (maybe some members after 18 weeks) can be a little better known.

I would be interested in knowing more about the mods and some high-profile members.

Of course the selected member will have to give permission.

A short bio on the member, able to put in their profile "Member of the week - (date)", and some other things.

If this is an idea that's already been mentioned before I apologize.

Don't some other forums do this? It's a pretty good idea. Although I think that maybe there should be a new member every couple of days or so; a week is kind of long.

NO.

This site does not promote elitism, aristocracy or heirarchy of any kind, it never has and never will. No member is better than another (Except for the flamers/spammers/trollers).

*cough*poly*cough* allows it, but we don't. :)

Agree with Ohwell. If you want to be more popular go play the GOTM, join a tournament, join the demogame or play an SG.

Apoylton does indeed do that, in fact, I wrote two of them for that site.

The problem with such a feature is basically spelled out in Ohwell's post, I agree with that, and have always promoted the idea that everyone, from the people making post number one to those with 5,000+ posts are EQUAL in every way.

Another problem is selection, whom to pick, followed by who would write it, both not inconsiderable concerns.

Yeah you should understand that CFC is a Communist society. ;) It doesn't matter how hard you post or how much you contribute, you still have the same status as everyone else.

Wrong, this is an IMPERIAL site, you are citizens in Emperor Thunderfall's domain.

Communism is NOT tolerated here.

If you've been around for awhile, you'll know people and being known (for good or bad ;)). No need for bios, profiles etc. :)

I think this' not such a great idea for reasons mentioned above. Can easily be seen as leading to an 'in' club. ;)

Just remember that Knight-Dragon is bad and you'll be fine.

Don't play around with sharp objects or aoa and whatever you, don't upset the civ3 mods(we'll kick your *#&) ;)

I'm quite certain that we already have a member of the day feature. In fact, there are quite a few members each day and you can learn all about what they think of things and a little of who they are simply by reading their posts.
If you want to celebrate people in a special way then take a look at the birthdays section and send those lucky people a PM on their birthday.

What a surprise. 6 votes for and 6 votes against...and before I was the only "yes" vote. That was two days ago I think.

The "Member of the Week" idea isn't intended to make anyone feel any less equal than they already feel. Some people feel less equal to mods because they can edit, delete, and modify threads and such.

I know that you will probably learn a lot of you stick around here a lot but I still think that even if you hang around here a lot you still don't know the most about a mod or member.

exactly. I loved the time when it was all so small around here. When I registered there were 500 members if I remember correctly, or maybe 1500. Anyway, you were known, others where known. That all dissappeared, it's like moving from a village to a city. I used to like off-topic very much, but I don't anymore. Ah well, it bring loads of advantages as well of course ;)

Wouldn't a member of the week thingy be a bit sicophantic though? Like some sort of "Hello" at-home-with-Rodgers-feature?

For instance -

"Exclusive pictures of the downmarket curbcrawler's batchelor apartment and the many women in his life"

"He opens his heart exclusively to our reporter and reveals the secret behind his love of knockers and snogging"

etc etc :D
