No, I would not, if you truly believed it.
This morning, I was watching CNN, a senior diplomat stated that IN PRIVATE, all the arab league hates and distrusts Saddam Hussein, but publically they present a differant picture.
The current Iraqi line is the US are war mongering liars out to stael Iraqi oil and turn "peaceful Iraq" into a US colony.
Strangely, I have heard this oil argument from a number of posters, and NOT ONE was silenced, the way the gentalmen indicated he would vis-a-vis "Bush Propaganda".

I'm pretty sure oil could be a reason why France and Russia were against resolutions against Iraq. France has interests in Iraq and Russia has oil for itself which they want to sell for a good price of course. :p

btw, aren't we thread-jacking a bit?

It was important to rebutt what the gentalman said, lest others get the wrong impression.

I'm sorry he was disatisfied, but I would hope others would look in and decide for themselves.

I find that many feel they are being censored for content, when in fact, they are cencored for being IMPOLITE.
They feel it's their "right" to insult and belittle views they don't agree with, and yell censorship when we don't allow that kind of behavior.

I have had endless problems with some people over this, and I always stress THIS point:

It's not WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it.

I think that's the right thought to go from. Sometimes things can be misinterpreted though, that's what I'm afraid of in some sensetive discussions for it has happened in the past (in the early days of my activity here :p and not with mods, but with a guy from Alaska who thought I was a racist:().

It can happen rather easily.

I had trouble with a few people last month over this, they couldn't see that it was their behavior, not what they said, that was objectionable.

 your sig just rulez :p makes me think of the series (with the avater) and makes me laugh :p

it's also the danger of having english as a foreign language. Things might come out a different way then you meant it.

At least i don't call people "Slimeball" like Hannibal used to. ;)

I try to take into account that some people have english as a second language, but I find most problems come from English speakers.

saw that coming... but it just the fact that the avater looks as if he just said the sentence you know. Ah well, can't turn this around anymore :p no slime action though.

Actually, he DID, it's from an A-Team episode, and Hannibal had just told that to some hick Sherriff who framed and killed a war buddy of his'. :yeah:

Proposed changes to the "Member of the Week" idea

I have devised the following changes in hopes of making this "Member of the Week" idea a reality and not just an idea:

Change it to "Member of the Month" to make it easier, for one.

This is the way that I envision it could work:
- Thunderfall posts an announcement for nominees for Member of the Month
- Members would submit who they want and why
- Nominee selection closed after a week or so

- Thunderfall narrows the list down and posts the nominees
- Announcment made across all boards and a thread opened for voting
- After a week or so, maybe two weeks voting would be closed
- Winner would be notified
- Winner would accept or decline; if declined, runner-up would get the title

- Optionally they could put bits of bio in a page
- They could be able to put "(month) Member of the Month" in title or signature

It could be just before the month where the nominees, voting, and winning could occur.

It is probably the best way to do it if it was done. The other way I was thinking was that it would be done mostly through e-mail but that would be inefficient for Thunderfall and it would be harder to get a more fair sampling of who people want as Member of the Month.

What do you think?

So long as I am not the one doing all that work, it sounds like a great idea! :) :p

PS Maybe a separate subforum for all these kind of threads....
