Memory allocation failure

Hi all!

The game works (almost) perfectly on my laptop (p4 2.8G, 512,GeForceFX,...)
The only problem is, when I try to save my game, I get a message saying something like "memory allocation failure, exiting program" and without saving the whole game crashes. Happily autosave works pretty good, so most of times I can just play along. Just this one time the game always crashed at the same point of the campaign (the same date every time) showing every time this same error message... Does anyone know what memory is failed to be allocated? And even more important, anyone have a clue on solving this problem?

Thanks a bunch!

I have the same problem. And it didnt start till i got the new patch. But my autosaves are corrupted now so i have to start a new game each time. I hope there is something quick and easy we can do about this.

Not getting this fixed I found entirely at the bottom of the config file (civilizationIV.ini) (last line)

; Break on memory allocation order #
BreakOnAlloc = -1

Seems to me that this could have something to do with the problem?
Should setting this to 0 or 1 solve anything?
ANYONE?
I'd really like to be able to play this game in a decent way... Only not shure what god I should call on for that...
(a little thought: °Civilization is great game, civIV probably (one of) the best, ain't it a pitty then there's that much problems for a lot of gamers? Maybe they should also test it on non-supercomputers before releasing it... Mine for instance is waay over recommended specs, only my video-card is allready two(?!!) years old(?)...(better than minimal req though) Even low graphics, low textures, small maps, no ingame-movies, and so on.. doesn't get my game-experience to the fullest... then again I say to y'all: ain't that a pitty for such a great game?)

Thanx for your help (i hope), T

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

I've had this problem many times during a game. I usually save every turn, since the autosave doesn't. The ratio seems to be 1 memory allocation problem, for 10 successful saves.

Also, it seems to happen in late games, when the loading times get a bit longer (I was playing on huge maps with 11 civs). I managed to finish the game, and started a new one (Large map, 9 civs). I'm now at 1842 AD and I have yet to experience the problem.

I too am having this problem upon autosaves, as the game gets into later eras. So, bump to see if anyone has a solution or workaround. Thanks.

Well err yeh i keep getting the same problem, and it seems to be rather random. i'm running a decent 2.8 Ghz P4, 512 RAM and ati radeon 9200pro, so it should run, but very frequently, too frequently i get the mem allocation failiure and it rips the fun out of a game cos you have to play over again from your last save. you cant safeguard against it by saving every turn cos its the saving that sods it up. i've looked around for answers on the net and noone seems to provide an answer on how to solve it anywhere...so simply put...
Bit of help?
Cheers
