Game started and sent to shadowdale.

Decent start so far.

3 cities(1 advanced tribe)

1 non chariot

Map Making(hut)
Code of Laws

Dearest Meredith,
My darling, please forgive me for not writing sooner. My most sincere apologies for the shortness of my words. You see Longshanks, has had us marching from sunrise to sunset.
Our day starts with a breakfast of salt pork and nuts. Then we march. And march. And march.Where we go and why is known only to Edward himself. The order to muster has been given,I must leave you now.
Reginald

p.s.
Much has happened since I last had time to write. My darling,Edward’s incessant marching has ended. Our merry little band had been journeying along the coast and this afternoon we came across a beautiful sight indeed.Schools of fish so thick you could walk on their backs and not touch water.A few of the men were able to catch a few and we dined like kings that evening.Just before sunset we saw a whale surface and blow what seemed 500 feet in the air.We are all in very good spirits.
We had an encounter with a small band of savages. We offered them some of the salt pork. They liked it so much they have apparently decided to join us.They ride ahead but alays return at mealtime.
Reg

p.p.s.
This morn was grand for me.Edward, himself, selected me to scout the surrounding area.It seems that ,during the night,he has decided we shall settle here.Imagine my delight as I presented him with a bushel of corn from the wild corn feild I found. There is also a fresh water river nearby. My lucked continued as I spotted immense herds of buffalo that same day.Allready our group has divided in 2.One shall continue to fish while the other is to begin our first farm and organize hunting parties.
Our new freinds returned with new knowledge. We are to construct craft so that we might travel on the ocean. It is not clearly understood but Longshanks seems to fancy the idea.He says our land may be surrounded by the mighty sea.
We found these very odd worms. They spin the most wonderous substance.Too bad we don’t know what to do with it.
more later my darling
Reg

A new Code of Laws was declared by Edward. Some of the men in York had been engaging in “rowdy” behaviour. He will have none of it.
It will be some time before I can write again.I have been assigned to the just dicovered settlement of Nottingham
Eternally yours,
Reggie

!!!

All is still well.
The chariot went out to scout the nearby lands and discovered that we are on a rather small island. This has made Edward order the construction of some ships so that we can explore outside our own island!!
London has become a bit overcrowded and therefore a group of people decided to move and have founded a new city to the south-west.
The scouts reported back that they had found a deserted temple and when the explored it they found some tombs. This news quickly spread to the entire population and we are now using the wondrous Ceremonial burial, ourselves.

Recently some wisemen in the capital of our empire came up with a new idea concerning the governing of the country and they have already convinced Edward that he should try it out - if it will succeed remains to be seen.

For the glory of the Empire

Turn 1:
-> Edward the Longshanks proclaimed King of new English Monarchy.
-> Raised science to 70% while decreasing taxes to 30%.
-> Barbarians land near Nottingham!
2 Archers

General Cimfindriel's Report:

My King,

I regretfully report that our scouts have encountered hostiles bearing arms that we have no knowlegde of on the outskirts of our Empire. On route to sack Nottingham, these barbarians seem to know the location of a small contigent of chariots we have camped on Nottigham's borders. A wise man once said "The first step in avoiding a trap is knowing of its existence" and this is our advantage. I have order Captain Fingolfin to march our small army north in hopes that the barbarians will join their forces on Nottingham. At which point we will approach them from their north-western flank with God's speed and might. May God grant us both of these things as well as victory for those whom we are to protect.

For the glory of the Empire!

Turn 2:
-> York builds settlers continues production.
-> Settlers on route to London in hopes to make sail to foreign lands.

Captain Fingolfin's Report:

General,
Everything went according to plan as the barbarian armies joined forces on Nottingham as you predicted. We cut through their ranks with little loss and are now resuming our role of exploring the land. We will report our findings if any are made. May God keep us safe and protect our King.

Turn 3:
-> London finishes construction of "The Concord", first ship of the naval fleet. Sets sail to protrol coastline.
-> London starts construction of a greaet statue in honor of our King and Lord.

Captain Fingolfin's Report:

General,
We have discovered what was believed to be all along. We are in fact on an island, yet one of some size. I have claimed all regions for his Majesty and plan to march our army back to London taking the Luthien. We will see each other soon old friend.

Turn 4:
-> Settlers on route to london given new orders; make roads in order to increase trade to London's outer regions.

Captain Sestril's Log:

Land, ho! West, off of London's coast we have discovered a cursed land. It appears to be unhabitated with just cause...it seems to be nothing more than a vast swamp that extends beyond sight. I must not give up now...this cursed swamp must end somewhere!

Turn 5:
-> Chariot continues on towards London.
-> Ship discovers more swamps.
-> Settler finishes roads.

Turn 6:
-> The Concord discovers hut and under the command of Captain Sestril heads back for London to report.
-> Settlers that await The Concord build more roads connecting London to the fringes of its borders.
-> Army under Captain Fingolfin's control take up postion in London and fortify the city.

Turn 7:
-> Nottingham builds settlers. Starts construction of a Phalanx in fear of barbarian attack.
-> York settlers complete roads...plan to set sail on the next turn.
-> The Concord docks in London.

Turn 8:
-> Settlers board The Concord and set sail.
-> Nottingham settlers start building roads on the way to settling new English city.

Turn 9:
-> Nottingham settlers complete roads.

Turn 10:
-> Discover Currency and start reasearching Writing.
-> The Concord discovers a place to make landfall. Settles prepare to claim land in the name of the King.
-> Nottigham's settlers start the construction of more roads.

Statement from Gil-Galad of the Science counsel:

"An empire is only as strong as its people and for this reason above all we must reasearch writing. There is power in speach..so too is there power in the writing of it."

Turn 11:
-> Settlers make landfall.
-> The Concord starts to explore the new colony's coast line.

Turn 12:
-> Settlers found Mallard's Haven. Mallard's starts the construction of warriors.
-> The Concord discovers hut just west of Mallard's Haven.

Turn 13:
-> Hasting builds settlers. Hastings warriors off to London in anticipation of population increase.
-> The Concord starts to head back to Hasting to pick up Settler.
-> Nottingham builds Phalanx and starts production of Settlers.

Turn 14
-> Nothingham Settlers discover perfect location for the foundation of a city.

Turn 15
-> In honor of General Cimfindriel Delglorfin, Nottingham Settlers found the city of Cimfindriel.
-> Barbarians land near Mallard's Haven.
-> York builds Settlers.

Got really lazy at the end there <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0> Well, I did my best and I hope all goes well. I am not as big on expansion as most, but I think our game looks promising. Our science rate went from 11 at the beginning of Monarchy with 4 cities to 7 with 6. We are well on our way and when I retired we were still the largest Civ.

I opted out of production in London early on for trade and food and it has become the largest city and now has the greatest production so I think it is going to be our "wonder city". I also fortified the NON chariot in London so it would not lose any production due to the ship it built and is supporting. The support can be changed later on, but I thought it best at the time.

I passed all my suggestions on to Pinky and am sure he will do great with or without them. Can't wait for my next turn! <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

The Reign of PinkyGen the Elder: 1550 BCE to 900 BCE.

After the successful reign of king Cimfindriel, PinkyGen assumed control during an uncertain time for the empire. Personally, PinkyGen had not been descended from one of the elite groups of phalanxes, nor had he served in the elite chariot army. Instead, he had been considered a mere warrior.
As for the empire itself, it was readily apparent that the kingdom was based upon on Island. Cimfindriel had previously discovered a new landmass, and had established an outpost at Mallard’s Haven. However, the arrival of the English had enraged the local natives, and primitive barbarian archers prepared to assault the Haven.
At first, PinkyGen hoped to establish peace without bloodshed by having his diplomat attempt to cause the archer to join the empire. Unfortunately, writing had not been perfected yet, and thus the diplomats were unready. Instead, the money poured into hastily creating a phalanx.
As the great battle on the New World was unfolding, a group of Settler’s boarded the trireme. Their destination was not to the new land, but rather to a point on the already settled British Isle. A quick survey revealed the bountiful “shields” of nearby grassland, coupled with excellent whaling off the coast. The decision was immediate, and the town of PinkyGen was established, named after their glorious leader. It was due west of Cimfindriel, at the far point.
Meanwhile, at Mallard’s Haven, the phalanx was organized just in time to ward off the archer. Indeed, they had not even had enough time to fortify and prepare defenses. Before the men could go to the tavern for a hardy drink, farmers reported another archer descending from the unknown lands of the north. And it was accompanied by their leader. Another battle was raged, though this time the phalanx had time to fortify, (but they never veteraned.) Their leader ran back into the darkness in fear.
Further exploration was done by a warrior unit landed from the trireme. They founded the riches of 50 pounds. Unfortunately, they discovered that the New World itself was an island, far smaller than the original homeland
frown.gif

Meanwhile, back on the mainland, PinkyGen had been focusing on internal development. New settlers were built, and roads and irrigation were created. Two libraries and a marketplace are under construction, for PinkyGen wished to accelerate knowledge among his people. Finally, Masonry was discovered, and PinkyGen changed the production of London from the statue honoring his predecessor to a new, grand wonder, the Pyramids, where he hopes to be buried.
At the end of his reign, PinkyGen had set the scribes to work on literacy. He hoped that literacy, and then following of the tech tree, would lead to philosophy, which would lead to a free tech. The library’s and marketplaces have not yet been completed, and the Pyramids are eight turns away from completion (production was shifted to forests away from grassland. London had already reached size 5, and the trireme was being stationed there to help enforce the will of the king.) Mallard’s Haven is preparing a settler, which may attempt to settle on the other side of the island, or board the trireme and search for new land.
In the end, PinkyGen will be remembered as the man who built the city of PinkyGen, the man who built the London-York road, and the man who safeguarded the small island that was once considered a New World, and as the man who was recognized by Tacitus was ruling over the largest empire in the world. He has started the great projects of Pyramids and library’s, yet was not able to live to see their completion. He dreams of an England with these improvements, and of the trireme setting out once more to search for new land.
QED

P.S. Just to make it real obvious, keep building the Pyramids. The Germans started building them, then abandoned, and then just recently restarted, so they must be farther behind. The Egyptians just recently started building them too, but by then I was ten turns away, so I don’t they will catch up.
I would have liked to expand more, but I need to find more land first.

I hope to mail this to Lenin soon.

Great job Pinky!
smile.gif

Is there room for another city on the small island where Mallard's Haven is? I figured that it would be an island, but didn't think it would prove to be so small.
frown.gif
Oh well, hopefully it isn't all swamps.

To the best of my knowledge, which is limited at times
smile.gif
, the game should be making its way to you. I think that Pinky and Fry did in fact switch places and that you are next in line to take control of our fine Empire!

Ok, sorry over the mixup. Fortunately, I have not mailed it yet, so I'm going to send it to Cedric now.

And yes, it is possible to squeeze in another city on the smaller island, in fact, Mallard's Haven is currently working on settlers to do this.

Sounds like we are progressing ok.Can't wait to see how much.

If we don't hear from Fry002,we will bump him 1 spot at a time until he returns.

Alright I snuck out of work at 9:30pm EST and I have played my turns,(my story will be written tomorrow, I need sleep) am I to wait and give Fry a chance or send it straight to Vlad? Question Vlad: are you "chomping at the bit" yet?

875 BC: Cedric takes over (the King awakes from a dream to find himself back on the accursed island, but something is wrong. The cities are in different areas and the wisemen do not look familiar at all, "This must be a horrible hallucination.), Trireme sent from London to explore.
850 BC: Trireme brought back to London because of citizen discontentedness.(word?)
825 BC: Mallard's Haven(?!? "There was no city there before and definetly not by that name") builds settlers for a new city.
800 BC: PinkyGen ("I must be going mad") builds settlers.
775 BC: Literacy discovered.(deja vu) I must find some way to contact the gods to find out why I have been doomed to repeat my days. Mysticism is next order of business. Pyramids have been completed, a little early with my help.
725 BC: Stonehenge founded, I feel this place will show me the gods' wishes.
700 BC: Trireme leaves London with wandering Chariot, I wish I could have been on that boat.
650 BC: Temple rush built in London, the loathsome peasants were pounding at the palace gates, there was no choice.
600 BC: Land sited to the east. York builds library, I consume myself in the books of water navigation and known lands.
575 BC: Nottingham builds market place, best selling and most common item: Rat Coats.
525 BC: Mallard's Haven builds settlers (again) for road and irrigation needs. Mysticism discovered, the gods prove useless in answering me, I decide to try to swim the channel to the new land. Wise men decide that philosophy would be best for understanding and explaining their king's decisions.
-Anyway still awaiting word on who to send to, heck Lenin if I don't hear anything when I get up tomorrow I'll send it to you.
