[MH2] - Monarchs take on Deity

Ok, here are my thoughts so far.

Trades
Renegotiate the Ivory deal with Pascal for more gold (hopefully 13gpt instead of 4 :)).
Trade our 3rd Ivory to Surry for 11gpt
OB with Surry

Techs
Finish off construction, then HBR. If I get the second Scientist in Tiwa we can get another Scientist quite quickly, so hopefully we will still be able to get some trades (Civil and MC at least, maybe calendar too if we are lucky) from a Philo bulb.

On the other hand, I'm wondering if maybe we should go for Feudalism for Vassalage. We don't want to change out of OR to Theo because of it's diplo benefits. I'm thinking we could stack builds of units until we get it and then have a bunch of units show up with 5xp instead of 3. That would also mean we could avoid building stables to boost our elephants to 5xp. The disadvantage of this is not getting Civil Service which we want for irrigation spread and movement towards education for Oxford.

Builds
Olly must be swapped to the HE, we need the extra hammers that will provide.
Cuzco will build a settler rather than a sword, Pascal will be burning down the barb city next turn, I'm not sure why we didn't get units up there sooner:sad:

Units
Because we will have elephants in our stack we shouldn't need spears for stack defense, but we will want so have some to defend cities.
We should designate two cities to have stables, I'm thinking Cuzco and the HE that will build phants, and the rest will build catapults, axes and archers.

Hatty as maces and LBs, so we will want a heck of a lot of catapults to bombard the city down to 0% in one turn and still have cats left over to cause collateral (15 maybe?).

Sounds good, but here's a few counter thoughts:

1. Our economy isn't in great shape to support a huge deity maintenance army (and a lot of extra cities if we succeed..., Civil service will be a much needed boost for the economy. OTOH, I almost ALWAYS go CS first (fun to try something else), and if it delays the war too much, we'd be fighting rifles with elepults!

2. Engeneering... that means castles and even worse... PIKEMEN! I don't estimate our odds high of gathering such a massive army before the AI has engeneering.

So IMO a musket-(cata/treb) war could be way more succesfull, as muskets don't care about walls, castles, and they have NO hard counter. This also gives us more time to decently prepare for the war (civil service, HE in place, some decent defenses in place etc. Then again, this path might just take too long. But it avoids having to tech HBR and no need for building stables.

Another GS would be great to bulb and then trade some techs, if possible. Let's hope so, I don't see another way out of this tech hole...

Hatty doesn't have LB's yet, but she might have them until the war starts.
On the other hand, she doesn't even have construction, so pikemen won't come very soon.
I think we can start a war before she has both (unless she gets these techs with trades).

Not sure if axemen are very useful when she has maces and war chariots.

I agree with Olly and HE, although it requires some major MM tile-wise.

Can we really get CS for Philo? They have the same cost and usually the AI requires something more for the techs (at least in my much-lower-levels experience).
So we should start teching CS anyway - either to lower its price or to research it ourselves and get feudalism instead (LB's would come in handy).

I think that waiting until we have muskets will be better for hatty than to us. With almost twice the number of our cities, her research will go much faster. I prefer an earlier war.

Keep in mind that if we do want to war we need to finish construction and get HBR too, so we won't have a chance to start CS for a while yet.

Good points about the obsolescence of axes, I guess we'll be relying on spears and archers to keep our stacks happy then .

Sounds like War (ie suicide :p) is a go then, I expect we will need ~3 sets to set up the units, but we have to start somewhere right? I'll see about squeezing in some time tomorrow, but I want to make sure I take my time and do a good report, and midterms are just starting up, so I'll have to see how everything is going.

Wow, that GNP stat was super scary. I agree with your consensus, go down in flames, I mean crush your neighbours ;)
The marble should help with your wonder failure money.
ps Civ V is rubbish

Ummm...

Stochastic?
Mikehendi??

Anyone???

I can't fight these deities all by myself! I can hardly handle a few monarchs...

OK. Martial law declared (with Mikehendi's permission). :ar15:

I declare this game officially re-opened, provided some other players will join.

It's time for all the lurkers to come and join our quest for immortality, eternal fame, and the chance to avoid humiliation :crazyeye:

If anyone is interested - go ahead and sign up!

New roster (Mikehendi and stochastic have saved seats, if they want):

1. Asaf
2.
3.

You know, we should have a BATTLE-OF-THE-CLASSES. Monarch team on one side, Deity players on the other. We face off starting with the same map & settings, and update the results at the same time to cross compare progress & differences.

That would definitely be an interesting (and humiliating) experience, but we need a Monarch team for that...
