Mic3 - Wonder Expansion

Hmm. I didn't even so much as touch Moscow during my turns, IIRC. I don't know how the hell it ended up working the coast. Sorry guys, I should have been paying better attention to that.

Serious, we will have nothing from changing to Democracy; what do we need faster workers for?

Not true. We get a cheaper military, less corruption in Buffalo, and faster workers. This translates into faster tech, and a better all-around civ.

We switched to Monarchy because we had to. The original game plan was to go for democracy to make up for our size...we still have that need.

IMHO, Democracy is the most overrated government. The benefits of a little less corruption and a few gpt saved on military cannot outweigh the costs of yet another period of anarchy. It's unlikely that we'll get lucky with only two or three turns of anarchy again. Also, we don't need faster tech. As a matter of fact, we're trying to slow down the tech pace. Aside from the obvious cons to anarchy, IIRC we do not accumulate culture during anarchy. We'll be pushing our finish date back by revolting.

PreTurn: do some mm, wake some workers, we can learn ToG in one and do so
IBT: Germany and America sign peace; Germans want to exchange territory map - we already know you have only one town left; we learn ToG - switch to Newtons' with only 8 shields wasted - start a bank in Moscow; piece of palace; Aztech start Magellans' in Tlaxcala; Americans in San Fran.
1060AD: Yaroslavl' is now 15spt, but one turn to late, so I shortrush a settler and its on track and can build a musket in 4, or a cossack in 6 from now on; St. Pete and Novgorod will pop a worker next turn; magnetism in 4
1070AD: nothing special
1080AD: Buffalo is now at 18spt, 1fpt - building a cossack in 5, 2 fortresses built
1090AD: Magnetism learned, we get medicine for free - not what I had hoped - steam power started
1100AD: India declared war on the Americans
1110AD: St. Pete is at 18spt, 1 fpt; hurry aqueduct in Yekatarinburg and uni in Yakutsk
1120AD: nothing special
1130AD: Moscow gets its bank - cossack
1140AD: Aztechs and America sign MA vs India
1150AD: nothing special

status is:
Moscow 23spt(4t for cossack)
St. Pete and Buffalo 18spt (5t)
Novgorod 19spt (5t) - it can build a worker every 5 and still produce 18spt
Yaroslavl 15spt (musket in 4)
Yakutsk 5spt (it will only produce specs anyways)
Yekatarinburg 2spt (just a filler and commerce city) - 3 workers should plant a forest there - I checked all non bonus forests around St.Pete for bg and reforested where necessary (n, nw of St. Pete).

We can and should peacefully revoke our iron deal with Abe, please have a look; steam is in 2 therefore I did not join more workers.

On long term research I'd do electricity, scientific method - ToE - atomic theory and electronics for free and then build hover; at best we'd pick up industrialization in between to get a factory and maybe universal suffrage.

Game seems to be done, if we dont let it slip.

I prefer republic and the not having to revolt is an added bonus. :-)
I'm at work, can anyone grab me the info from the F3 screen, how many units we got? I think our free units should be around 18, it will be 22 when our 2 pop11's grow to 12 and will eventually be 28 when we get two more cities to 12. (I understand they may not be the current two towns)

I would like to go for Industrialization. All the workers please go to railroad our capital first. We should make 37 spt after that. With factories and coal plants that's 78spt, and build Universal Suffrage in 11 turns. I want that wonder. We do not need to research too fast - I wouldn't mind shut off research completely after Industrialization.

Another useful tech is Corporation - we can then build Wall Street.

cool, that's actually much less than I was expecting. it's only 15gpt more and we aren't really interested in pushing our science development any faster. We can probably still afford plenty more cossacks quite comfortably.

I looked at the save and here are some comments:

1. We should be able to renegotiate horses deal with India and get more. Currently we are paying 3gpt+horses for 2 lux. But the question is do we plan to attack India? Probably too risky? We have only 16 cossacks.

2. I'd let the iron deal with America continue as it is, as America will likely get iron anyways once Munich expands. But I'll not renew it, since we'll need it for factories and probably railroads also.

I don't like having workers idle. They can road tiles in our territory even if we cannot use them. It will be useful if we have war. They can help the worker which is building the fortress in 9 turns too. But we soon will have railroad so it's a moot point now, but do keep this in mind.

I see India at war with America/Aztecs and that's very good.

I hope we do have coal, otherwise we need to take it by trade or military.

BTW: please upgrade all trebs to cannons. And move a couple more musket to capital, and fortify one on the hill.

@microbe:

on 1. I see no point in attacking anyone. Why should we? We are on our way to 20k. All we need is some more wonders and a good military to be able to defend. I think any war is pointless for us. If we get more cities, what are you going to do with them? Build more units to defend more cities? We have no problem with our tech speed, in fact I even hear we are too fast, so we do not need more income either. Only reason may be if we dont have coal and cannot trade for it.

on 2. The reason I did this is to start rr there. They are 2 turns early I have to admit.

Happy Friday the 13th, let's get started!

Preflight: Viewing F3, we only have a few boats to upgrade, and as we are not going to go for any expansions, I let them sit in the harbor. I take the stacks of workers, and let them start on some extra roads/fortresses, until Steam Power comes along. No need to end the iron deal yet, we can always use the extra gold for a few turns. I may re-consider the need for war, depending on where the coal pops up and its availibility. I really hope there is some in Buffalo! No one has any IA techs except for us yet, lets hope for some SGL's.

IBT: Indians complete smiths in Delhi.

(1)1160: Sci down to 70%, we get Steam next turn.

IBT: We learn Steam power, on to Industrialization. Chineese city of Tsingtoa finishes Magellans Voyage. The cascade is over.

(2)1170: Where is the coal! We have none.
India has zero sources.
The little island I picked out earlier has a source of Coal.
The Ottomans control a total of 3 sources in all.(Bursa, Izmit, Sinop)
The Aztecs have 1 source.(Aztcapotzalco)
Americans have 1 source.(Boston)
There is one unclaimed source, but it looks like it will belong to the Aztecs after expansion unless the Iroquois can take their city back.(Salamanca)
Total of 6 sources in all for 8 civs. As we could be denied coal, I start a war party.

Caravel in Yaroslavl gets upgraded to a Galleon. Hurry a new Galleon in Yaroslavl, rush a settler out of Yeka. Planned attack force, 2 Galleons, 5 Cossacks, 2 Muskets, and a Settler. I send a diplomat to check out the city, only culture buildings, 2 Spears. Definate overkill for this attack, but as said before, I am going to raze Kafa as well, to maximize our development.

Medicine has been traded around.

I slow reseach to 60%, no gpt loss. Industralisation in 10.

IBT:

(3)1180: Ships sail for Sinop. I hope there are some workers on that island. No one knows of Steam power yet. I switch focus of building Cossacks to Musketmen.

(4)1190: I build my first barracade ever in C3C. Might not be a bad idea to set up a few of these. Only 1 boat can reach Sinop, so I let them both park outside of its boarders. Gandhi knows Nationalism, he doesn't want to trade, but he agrees to an embargo vs the Ottomans, we don't need him obtaining any coal.

IBT:

(5)1200: Before starting the war, I investigate Kafa. He is trying to build a FP there, due in 100 turns or so, has 1 spear, and no improvements. Smart. I declare and land our troops right on the coal mountain. I spy a horseman on the island, apparently doing some manuvers.

IBT: China and America sign vs India. Knuckleheads. Troops start to flow from India.

(6)1210: We raze Sinop with no losses. Vladivostok is founded, and I rush a harbor. We have no workers on this island, so I send a ship to pick some up. No need to endanger a Galleon right now, so I keep the war party in town. I position workers to start RRing next turn. Since we can't get nationalism, I choose to sell off steam power. Best deal is from Abe, 71gpt. Gandhi, 42gpt and Iron. 39gpt from China.

IBT: Aztecs DEMAND Free Artistry...not wanting to bother, I give it to him. Aztecs and India sign peace. An ottoman Siphi beats up one of our poor muskets...and I rush a library in Vlad.

(7)1220: I beat up the Siphi, and try to get a ROP with India. We win the battle, but are no ROP. 3 Cossacks in a boat headed for Kafa. There is a longbowman waiting there for us...lets see what happens.

IBT: We lose a Cossack to the longbowman. We lose 2 Muskets to more Siphi attacks. Start a barracks in Vlad.

(8)1230: We raze Kafa with no losses, and gain 2 workers. I ferry them over to Vlad. I kill off the Siphi threatening us, and move some more troops to defend our saltpeter location. To enforce our front, I rush a few muskets.

IBT: The Ottomans call me up. Wow, that was quick! I could get a city out of it, but since we would have to abandon it anyways, I take straight peace. Scores of elephants move onto our boarders, and pollution strikes Moscow.

(9)1240: I let the pollution sit, and concentrate on the RRing. I decide that a single slave working on a fortress isn't worthwhile any longer and have him start RRing.

IBT: I get very scared as India's troops pass over our lands. We lose our spices and wines.

(10)1250: I trade back our wines and spices for Metallurgy from the Aztecs, I also throw in 1gpt just so we will have first chance to renew the deal if need be.

Post-game wrap up: We still aren't able to trade for Nationalism, but hopefully that won't be a problem for a bit. India's growth will be stunted for a while as they lack coal, so look to America to become the tech leader. We need to decide when to build Ironworks!

The Save.

3 posts in a row: Anyways, we might want to deny America iron. I kept up the deal because we were getting Dyes out of the deal, but maybe a straight gpt deal with them would be best.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot to upgrade the cannons.
