Mic6 - AWM Pangea

I got it..
I am on eastern time and wIll play tonight...

Anybody want to come up with a nice little dot map for the city placement??
We'd better discuss it so everyone on the same page.
Unfortunately, i am at work and don't can'r do much of dot mapping.

I tried to come up with a dotmap but it kinda depends on what's in the northern fog. Anyway the general idea is to expand to the horses and keep it space 3. Exceptions might be made if really necessary, based on the surroundings. It can't be too far off.

el_filet: that's good! If gozpel doesn't confirm his interest I'll put you in the last slot.

I'm working on a dotmap. How many cities shold be within 3 tiles? Is it ok like this or do you want more then two cities within range?

EDIT: Adepted to bring in Gems

Blue dot looks okay for the next city placement,
I would probably build another city SE (edit: actually east rather than sout-east) from our capital, before continuing expanding towards horses.
That will give us one more city to produce shields and pump units early in the game.
if we spend too much effort and send every settler towards horses those cities won't be productive for quite some time, until we change to republic and/or build FP.

until we change to republic
This is an AW game. You will never see republic. The valid goverments are Monarchy, and Commie.

:) Monarchy is what i've really meant...
Point was until we switched from despotism to something else those remote cities won't be much of a help.

To get to the horses we need at least to settle 3 towns and probably 4 to make it safe.

I'm fine with settling another good spot before doing that, but my only worry is that we'd be stuck building archers and spearmen. However, we need a city for great library anyway.

This game will not be as easy as last one, where we had a isolated position and a free settler very early. Be prepared for some brutal turns. Enemies might come from all directions. :)

That is why i am going to switch to Iron working as soon as we get HR.
We've got to know where the iron is,

Osaka is a pretty good spot for the Great Library.
It has at least 6 BGs around lots of forest tiles and can grow beyond pop 6.
Should be a powerhouse.

I won't have time for another SG right now, so let el_filet take my place. He's been begging to play :)

I will follow the game though.

Ok, here we go...
i had fast 10 turns, I'd say boring with no action.

Pre-flight: Not trying to be smart since i am a new here, but rather trying to understand a logic and may be learn... Why did we road deep forests between Kyoto and Osaka? Wouldn't be it better to take care about BGs first?

T1. 1310 BC. Pillaging the cow near Carthage. Moving warriors to find out what's under the fog NW from Japan.

T2 2270 BC. Warrior to pillage last tile near carthage... Kyoto Spear->Settler. Science down to 80%

T3 2230 BC. Warrior spotted barbarian NW of Japan. Science down to 70%

T4 2190 BC. Pillaged road near Cathage. Found another source of horse and furs... very nice location. I vote to put FP over there. Worker to mine BG near osaka. On the second thought the 2 cows location is better for FP.

T5 2150BC. Pillaging another road near Carthage... Science down 50%

T6 2110BC. HB is researched.. IW in 18 turns at 100%. Osaka Spear->worker. Warrior kills barb.

T7 2070BC. zzzzz

T8 2030 BC. Kyoto Settler->Archer (order can be changed by the next player though, I thought we need another offensive unit if AI scout shows up all of the sudden.)

T9 1990 BC Osaka worker-> Archer. (same as above). Carthage Archer attacks our warrior and dies, we suffer no wounds.

T10 1950 BC. Nice, there is a goody hut right next to the intended location of a new city... Don't open goody hut with a warrior, but rather let it pop when city is founded, this way we won't get nasty barbarians, but something nice. Personally i'd love to get pottery we need those granaries.

Meanwhile, our spearman kills barbarian to the east of Osaka. Settler is delivered to the future city location.

We can build perfect RCP3 ring around Osaka. I know it is not PTW but still looks good and then i'd rather go towards second horse source since we won't need to road across the hills, should take us less time.
I put numbers for the city priorities build, but it can be changed and everything can be changed once we know where iron is.

Save

That's all folks! Not it's time to check the fridge and get some  :)

EDIT: Oh, Sorry for the huge picture size, just wanted to make sure all details and dots are clearly seen.

You are completely right. I don't remember why I did that, most likely just plain stupidity.

I see your dotmap. I don't really like settling only 2 tile apart, so stretch that a bit, please.

I've got it. We have plenty of time to discuss city placement since it will be a good 24hrs before I think about playing this one.

Here is updated map with less number of cities. RCP rings don't mean anything in Conquests, but it helps to visualize distances between the cities.

If we only could build settler factory where 2 cows are, but that location is too far from palace to be productive without FP and that's where I suggest we place our FP.
It's also good to know we can easily secure 4 luxuries... It is really a luxury while playing conquests when you have so much resource so close to each other.

I priorized hill cities on the Carthagian front. Why do you wanna built so dense, I thought 3 tiles is the only important thing to consider?
