Mic6 - AWM Pangea

It's certainly not high priority city, but there are not many alternatives there. I'm more concerned about the SE, maybe we should shift the three cities one tile NE, would grab whales and fishes but also force us to build reddish dot last.

I intentionally used very dense city build...
That would help us to have more productive cities in the beginning of the game.
For this particular map it looks like we have a lot of empty area, but when we play AWE we won't have such luxury, and winning or losing AWE will pretty much depend on how many units can we pump, and that will depend on how many cities can we squeeze in the area not so large as the current one.

I base my experience on SGOTM3 game where we have had very dense city locations. It's okay when city tiles overlap, all we need is for the city to be able to reach size 7 and build a horse in 5 turns and less. Then having large number of cities we can keep pumping horses and use resource disconnect technique to kill any enemy in no time. I assume resource disconnect is allowed exploit in AW game, or am i wrong?

Few things I don't like about el_fit dot map:

blue dot should be moved one tile NE to pop the barb hut immediately.
Yellow dot one tile NE to make it a coastal city.
Orange dot - low food supply.
Locations of eastern cities are questionable still we need to reveal the fog.
I personally prefer to use the dot-map Microbe had came up with.

:) Yeah, 2 tiles apart a little bit too dense...
Again, i vote for the Microbe's dot map

Surprisingly, I kind of like my dotmap :)

About dmanakho's comments:
Blue: I got yokels building a city close to hut (PTW or Vanilla). Is that impossible or at least less likely in Conquests?
Yellow: We got 1 costal city and planned another one, seems enough for pangea
Orange: got 1 grassland and one FP from pink. some woods to chop from brown->grassland. Low priority city anyway.
East: Admittedly very ambitious. More compact front line might be better.

I suggest I draw an alternative dotmap with more cities in the east, probably pretty much like Microbes (in the East). First ring cities should be the same in ambitius and conservative dotmap, so we can build them and decide later how to proceed.

When you pop a hut with a city build you getting technology or money but never barbs...
When you pop a hut because of city expansion then you can get those nasty barbs.

Thanks for the info.
We can build yellow dot first to take advantage of this.

More compact eastern frontline. But now green dot gives reason for concern :(

el_filet's map it is. :)

AIs will have to agree with us on monarch. :)

It would be a little harder to convince them when we play Emperor.

1950BC-0 Send worker by hut back to Osaka. Fortify in the mountains overlooking Carthage.

1910BC-1 Build Tokyo where settler stands, learn pottery from hut and start a barrack.

1870BC-2

1830BC-3

1790BC-4

1750BC-5 Osaka and Kyota go from archers to settlers. They will explore some of the fog the the east.

IBT A barb shows up between Tokyo and Carthage.

1725BC-6 Archer heads to find camp. Realize settler will arrive before growth in Kyoto so swap to granary.

1700BC-7

IBT Western barb fortifies and another shows up in the east.

1675BC-8 Kill eastern barb but lose 2hp. End up next to camp.

1650BC-9 Kill western barb and promote to a 3hp elite.

1625BC-10 Send 3hp archer west to find barbs. Promote 3hp archer taking eastern barb camp.

Tokyo's barrack due next turn with Iron Working. Osaka settler due in to to get iron I hope we find close. Kyoto needs to work the forest on more turn to have shields out pace food for granary.

The Game

PreTurn: Perfect.

IBT: Iron working - alphabet.

1600BC: We can found a horse/iron town.

IBT: Archer from Catharge dies to our warrior.

1575BC: --

1550BC: --

IBT: Archer from Catharge dies from our warrior.

1525BC: --

1500BC: Kill a barb.

1475BC: Disperse a barb camp. Spot a pink border.

1450BC: Spot a purple border.

IBT: Arabia contacts us.

1425BC: We buy alphabet, masonry, mysticism for horseback riding + 9gold. Declare. Edo founded. Research to maths.

1400BC: Disperse barb camp.

1375BC: Tokyo was founded 1 ne from the dotmap and I moved Edo 1 nw too. We probably should shift this whole part (coastal silk city) this direction. I decided against contact with the purple (French). If you dare, try to take out the Catharge :)

I would leave carthage there for now until we get some swords or at least horses. Seems with our warrior parking there it's going to stay size one forever.

Let's go for Writing - Lit asap after Math.

We should start GL prebuild in Osaka soon. It's would make sense to have a granary there, so it grows faster and gives us more shields, or we can join few workers to Osaka instead.

Osaka also needs a temple.

Not necessarily.

We have 4 luxes nearby and 3 of them we can easily secure in short time.
Plus with 2 MPs(3 in Monarchy) Osaka can grow way above size 6 with no problems as far as people happiness concerned.

We just have to decide if we want to build granary there and then start GL prebuild, or start pre-build and then join workers later.

If we build cities from both sides of Osaka (and we plan to do that), then temple also won't be needed for expansion purposes.

I forgot about all the lux. Looking at the picture posted by grs, the third ring of Kyoto has brought in the last BG needed. I did not take that into consideration either. I vote for a granary and then the pre-build.

That is a nice looking dot map... :) I totally agree with...

I suggest we fortify a spearman on the mountain next to Carthage in addition to what we have there and ignore them until we take care about Arabs and who ever is hiding behind pink border (French or Incas???).

EDIT: That pink dot is just a perfect location for FP city. With cows and hills it will be a production powerhouse.
