Using Opera 7 to acess Hotmail

It should be noted that Opera works just fine with Hotmail...

Seriously? They LIE, saying Opera 7 won't work with Hotmail, and it does? That's messed up.

You must admit, Microsoft is as smart as it is willing to lie...:crazyeye:

Yes, they had the MSN site formatted on purpose so that if it detected users using Opera it would load different style sheets, so as to make it look like Opera couldn't handle the tables properly.

People, even edited the Opera exe file to change the browser identification string, and when Opera was fed the same style sheets as IE it displayed the same as IE.

In, response to this Opera Software released Opera Bork edition which changed all the text on the MSN site to the language of the chef in the muppets.

Yes Opera works fine but MS only said they cannot guarantee that is will work - pretty stupid but not a lie.

The reason they "cannot guarantee" that Opera will work, is because last year they tried to insert code that looked for Opera browsers, and deliberately screwed up the output for them. The problem only lasted a few hours, until the outrage "hit the fan", and they took out the offending code.

That was MSN they did that to.:)
However Xbox now doesn't load at all with Opera.

www.xbox.com is loading fine with Opera 7.01 - just very slow....

I've actually discovered that that screen shows up every time your unbox has a new email, which is very, very sneaky...

Has anyone else experienced this?

yes. I've used several different browsers, and none of them feels as "good" as IE. Mind you, I hate the way IE crashes all the time, and tries to bring down the OS with it (especially W98), but when it works, I like it. Everything else just seems to feel goofy to me. Opera (6.4) came close to switching me, as I tried it a lot longer than Netscape (about a month!), but in the end, it was just more hassle than I wanted.

TheDS, try Opera 7.x (latest is 7.03). I like this one much better than 6.x....

Also, you can set Opera 7.x to show up as IE 6 and not get those crazy messages from hotmail.com
