Hello, for my classes I need microsoft word and such and so I took the product key from my laptop and entered, and got nothing. I didnt need it when I got the computer so I didnt enter it, so I guess the code expired. I really dont want to pay a lot of money for something I should have, seeing as I run off of Windows 7.

Any hope for me or am I just screwed into the monoply that microsoft has?

As a student you should be able to get it cheap, as long as you are quick about it - MS are stopping to student programme in march. I don't know where you are located, www.software4students.co.uk is the uk place that sells MS office cheap.

Windows 7 doesn't include Word. Your PC may have come with a 30 day trial rather than a full version of MS Office.

There is also OpenOffice.org/LibreOffice and AbiWord which are both free. I use AbiWord myself for the more advanced word-processor features like tables or footers or something. Most times, for me, WordPad suffices. I think all save in the Word formats though correct if Im wrong. (I use RTF).

They're not stopping the student program, they're tweaking it so that it's tougher to get the student version if you're not a student.
