Hi everybody,

I have become quite good with early game, but at mid and late game I have no idea what I should build, as there are just too many buildings to chose. There are banks, university, public school, and I don't know how many buildings that improve production.

So what do you build at this moment of the game?

It really depends on your current standing and your victory goal...

But if you are way ahead of the other civs midgame, you probably need to go up in dificulty. With a good early game, you would be on par with other civs midgame, then choices seem obvious. I think you have it too easy after early game, so it doesn't matter what you build.

I find it depends what I am short on.
EG if I am short on cash, I'll set cities to Banks and Stock Exchanges. If I need a science boost, get the Uni's up. If I'm doing ok, build some army dudes and attack some folk :)

as a rule sci buildings first then production then happiness buildings, but its all vic condition and map/ war dependant, your choice is the game....

i would def get unis up asap tho, i usually start to go to war in renaissance so i may not build much until public schools or theatre if unhappy, you should have workshops up and ironworks.

obv military buildings if planning a big army.

Ok thanks. Those public school take a while to build though. Who needs education anyway ? :)

what difficult level are you playing at?

As other have said it really depends on your goal, and what you need the most to meet that goal. The higher the difficulty level, the more important it is to make these decisions carefully.

Universities are probably the most important building in the game. Getting these up ASAP and filling the scientist slots is the best way to generate a lot of scientists to power through the later techs.

Factories are a must in most situations. Make sure you acquire enough coal to build them in all your core cities. They are especially good with a wide empire that goes order for +25% science.

Happiness buildings are important during this phase to keep your empire growing steadily, therefore improving your economy & science.

In general, the later specialist buildings like stock exchange, public school, etc. are not as important as the earlier counterparts. They are very expensive to build and since they come later, don't have the same impact. They should only be built in your core cities that will get substantial benefits from it. For example a capital with monarchy, the commerce opener, national treasury, etc. would benefit substantially from the stock exchange.

There are exceptions of course. Say you are in a very tight science race, you'd want to build more public schools than you would otherwise.

I play on Emperor now, I've won my first game yesterday and I could have won another one I didn't finished.

It's true that factories are great when having the +25% science bonus. I didn't see this, because once I completed the left side of rationalism I thought I wouldn't get more policies, however I had enough culture to take the +25% bonus. Will try this next time :)

It seems that universities aren't a problem for me to build, I usually have them in all cities.
