I have been playing the Middle Ages Conquest as the Swedes, and have been wreaking havoc on costal citys. I was getting annoyed that after about 40 elite victories, I still had not gotten a leader. Well, I finally got one, and ferried him and 3 elite berserks to one of my cities, created an army, and filled it with the 3 elite berserks. OK, I will be unstoppable now, I thought. I go to attack the next city, and the army only gets 2 attacks from the sea. Is this the way it is supposed to work, or is there a bug? The way it is, I would have been better off keeping the 3 elites.

Thanks

The only elites you should put in an army are ones that have already produced a leader.

A berserk army will have a movement rate of 2 (berserk = 1, army = +1), therefore 2 attacks/turn.

And remember, if you want to do amphibious attacks do NOT mix berserkers and marines in the army. :D

He'll have trouble getting marines in the Middle Ages conquest.

The big advantage of that army is that it no longer has a mere 6 attack, but 6 + 18/6 = 9 attack. You might prefer the extra attack of unbanded units if you're mostly bashing weakling units from the sea, but that army is unlikely to die. After all, it's a 9/3/2 amphibious unit with blitz and 15hp, which the AI won't attack and which can heal in enemy territory.

I only have elites, way down where I am (about 20 of them). I have a few vets back at home, but it would have taken me about 12 turns to get the leader back there to form the army. I got another leader about 3 turns after forming the army.

Anyway, thanks for the information everybody. I never have built armies with early units, usually it's with calvs, tanks, or MA. I assumed that each unit in the army got an attack, I didn't realize it had to do with movement.

Instead of dragging him back home, you should have simply kept one of the cities you attacked, built the army, and then razed it. I had 4 Berzerker Armies in Longboats at the height of my power.

I had 4 armies of 4 knights each in this conquest... They had movement 3, combine it with 40 catapults and nothing will stand in your way :)

Knights are only available to the Christian nations in the Middle Ages Conquest.

And Berserk armies would (9).(4.5).(2), not 9.3.2.

Parentheses added because 9.4.5.2 is confusing.

Re: Berserk Army:

Tomoyo, I think your math is wrong:

An Army of 4 'Zerks is:
6 + (6*4)/6 = 10
2 + (2*4)/6, round down! = 3
2

With 3 Berserks, it still is 9.3.2
6 + (6*3)/6 = 9
2 + (2*3)/6 = 3
2

The really crucial thing to remember is that everything is rounded down; for example, an Army of 3 Berserks and 1 Assassin would have only an attack of 9...
