Middle-Earth: Lord of the Mods (Private Beta I)

Trekkies are only a weak shadow -- like wraiths, perhaps -- of the image of true Tolkien scholars. And heck, we don't even go to conventions and dress up in silly costumes. ;)

Maybe you don't dress up in silly costumes!
;)

I don't even think I saw RotK on opening night!

Besides, what would I wear? The spearhead that I ordered still hasn't arrived...and yes, Stormie, my bearskin is still at the tannery. Cool! I've got two fun things to look forward to now! A bearskin and a spearhead! Woo hoo! (Are there any characters or peoples in Middle Earth who wear bearskins and carry spears? Frankly, I can't recall any...oh well, I hear that Mithadans do. ;))

Unfortunately I do not have as much spare time to peruse these forums as I once did. However, I recently noticed that activity on this thread has been nonexistent. Has the mod been released, or has yet another thread been opened for further discussion? I quickly scanned through the Customization forum, and did not see one. Any information would be welcome...

It's still in development. However, we have a private forum for that, so you won't see much of that here.

BTW I just posted a couple of buildings for the mod... over there in the gfx forum =>

Release.

Love you long time.

Michael

Would you believe me if I said it was hard coded? :mischief:

Lucens, I understand that you want to try it, but we don't want to release something half baked, that forces people to download an endless number of patches, until they tire of it and think the mod sucks. :)

Quite simply: YES!

I guarantee that what caused that crash (CTD without any error popup) was a mispelled pediaicons.txt header... I had the same thing happen with the FF mod a LONG while back when I accidently had the one of the unit entries as PTRO instead of PRTO.....

It also could be caused by some similar misspelling with one of the BLDG, TECH or GOOD entries as well (basically anything that has a pediaicon entry that the header for could easily be misspelled and/or have two letters transposed without being easily noticed)...

Sooooo,

1) Thank you for the responses!

2)a. How prevalent are these crashes?

b. Is there a clear idea of what is causing them?

3) Overall, realistically, how close are we to actually seeing a more-or-less finished product? I mean, we do all want quality (how can those of us who are left NOT?), and I understand this has been a difficult process for all you hard-working developers and testers. Really, we your fans are very impressed with your perseverance and creative drive. Yet... nearly three and a half years have gone by! I mean, since time this mod began I have watched my daughter be born, learn to walk, go through her "terrible twos", and grow into a feisty pre-schooler! :D Help us out here... is the end really in sight? Will it be another 6+ months?

We, the Loyal, would love to bask in the glory of your labor!

Cheers,

Michael

I'm the only one who has reported a crash in the current version. It may be something specific to Isengard.

b. Is there a clear idea of what is causing them?
Not aside from Hikaro's theory. I also suspected a faulty sound file, since it didn't give me any kind of error message.

Close. :p

Then for the love of all that is good and right in the world, find that sound file and put it dow.... errr, I mean, fix it!

Please tell me that is the only problem...? If so... :goodjob: If not... :cringe:

Also, are regular updates from the team a poor idea (how many of you are there, anyway)?

Reduces the stress level of,

Michael
