I'll be adding four of them in my next version... more if he fixes his Harrier cockpit canopy, and updates his F4 and TU22/160 (hint hint ;)).

Though nice, I would be wary of using too many of them in a game. Nearly all are higher-poly than what is recommended, and could seriously slow down any computer that isn't well above the recommendations. Just an FYI.

Appreciate the warning Snaf. That being said I *have* read all these threads ;), and in general TQ seems to have been doing better about polycount since he started updating everything in December. In any case, of the four I'm currently using he quoted estimates of 1900 and 2000 on two of them (MiG29 and Frogfoot) and didn't specify on the others (F14 and J10), but I'm going to give the latter the benefit of the doubt in terms of being similar til proven wrong, and Rabbit's assessment was that upwards of 2000 was probably okay for air units anyway. Either way my PC should be able to handle it... If people do complain I can always remove them later, but it's not like I have a lot of people who use my mod. :p

My goal is not to include every possible distinct aircraft either; I use enough to cover my air categories (which are more numerous than in vanilla but not by a lot) plus some national substitutions, and admittedly the total is getting up there a little, but it's nowhere near comprehensive (and never will be).

One of the F14 versions from TQ has 6k polies. FYI.
... Ouch. Happen to know which one? And... just out of curiosity, how do you know, are nif's openable without the original file/s used to make them?

I know because I looked at the number of "triangles" the model contained... it was the best-looking one IIRC.
And as long as you put the boundshape.nif file from the Firaxis nifviewer in the model's folder, you can open it by doing a double click on the model's niffile. :)

Are triangles and polygons equivalent in this context? Because Snafusmith's models go all the way up to 5090 on his A10 Warthog (which I'm not going to stop using and which a lot of other ppl use too).

Btw I guess we have a different opinion on which F14 is the best-looking, b/c I took his F14D and, according to the viewer, it clocks in at 48,601 triangles... Yeesh. In retrospect I suppose the 882K filesize of the nif should've been my first clue. Anywho, that one's obviously out...

For anyone reading this that might care, of the others I was going to use, the J10 is 9385, the MiG29UB is 10341, and only the SU25 Frogfoot is a usable 2211 triangles. Even then, to me at least, 2211 does not qualify as "~2000" which is what TheConquests posted... sigh.

Thank you for this info... I didn't even know there *was* a Firaxis NifViewer til now.

The number of Triangles in the .Nif viewer and the polygon count are different numbers. The polygone count from 3ds Max is what I list with my units and is the number you should go by. I opened the Mig in question (this thread) and checked in 3ds max - it had close to 2,600. Not extravigant, but I would never use it.

Thanks Snaf. I'll shut up while I'm behind then. :)

There was a free limited version of Max I vaguely remember, being pointed to a long time ago for ppl trying to make buildings for SimCity 4. I wonder, if that's still around, if that would work for getting the polycount...

But yeah we/I weren't actually talking about the MiG in this thread specifically -- it all started when someone asked why modmakers weren't using more of Conquests' units -- so uhh thanks for getting things back on track. My previous numbers being wrong/irrelevant notwithstanding, "close to 2600" is still not "~2300" imo so my basic point stands. I wouldn't make such a fuss if I didn't want to use some of these so badly, heh.
