Now that the moderator powers have had enough time to go to my head, it's time for some sort of community building OT thread... Note that the name of the thread isn't "Milking... the post count". ;)

I think it would be nice to have a little more interaction between players here on this forum. The seperate game threads have helped in that regard, so here's another stab at it. Feel free to share a bit about yourself, a joke (tasteful of course), or whatever. On-topic posts will not be tolerated!

--------------------

I'll start...

It's been quite a while since I was able to play a game of Civ. I've been living with relatives down in southern California for a few months now, with my gaming computer back in Utah. Will be going back this week, so maybe the drought is over.

Mixed feelings about it though. I certainly will miss the ocean. Been spending almost every second at the beach when the sun was out and a lot of the time when it wasn't. Swimming (well, I can float at least), soaking up sunshine, and just playing in the sand. Will miss it! (and lose my tan :( )

Nice castle Aeson! :D
SO, you'll be getting back to playing civ? Maybe even a HoF attempt?

And please don't ask me for tasteful jokes, 'cause I don't know any..... ;)

Hello, my name is Superslug, and I'm a milkaholic.

I work ten hour third shifts (which partly explains why you practically see me post round the clock) in Western North Carolina. In my nonCiv spare time, I compete in Magic The Gathering tournaments and operate a role playing Star Trek website.

My goals in life are to earn a Ph.D in Mathematics, accumulate a post count equal to the total of all the moderators combined and eventually have the top score on the top level.

@SupersluG: magic? I used to play that too. I've got at least 2 thousand cards lying around somewhere...

I rarely get the chance to play Civ anymore :( The irony is that apart from this, 2003 has been a good year for me, great new job that I love, new house, ut not enough time or civ.

Once I'm settled again in the new year hopefully i'm going to get back into it and give those Regent champs a run for their money :)

Some information about myself. My name is Roman Nastenko. I am 17 years old and now I become a student of Kiev Polytechnical Institute (KPI). I was playing Civilization about 6 years, from 1997 on Civ1 to 2003 on Civ3PTW. I like this game very mush because of many reasons. I don't want to explain them bow, because of mine REALY BAD English. Maybe later...

well, my RL name is Daryl and i live in northern kentucky-just a few miles south of cincinnati, ohio. cinci is the home of the bengals which is where is got my forum name at. a linebacker named Takeo Spikes used to play for the bengals and now plays for the buffalo bills. when Takeo was drafted by the bengals he explained about his name, in the paper. he said that it means 'great warrior' in japanese. ever since then, when i have needed a name in a computer game, i have used Takeo. i grew up in kansas and lived there my whole life until 10 years ago. i am still a chiefs fan at heart, so i will be rooting for them when they come to town this week to play the bengals. any football fans out there? the chiefs are 9-0!!:band:

i used to play civ2 off and on for several years, but was never into it as much as civ3. i found this site about a year ago and have been playing civ3 almost every day since then. i even have several games i have bought within the last year that i haven't even played yet.
well, i've been away from the game for a few minutes now...;)

@Takeo: Check the NFL thread in sports. You'll find me there too...

OK, something about myself (arguably the biggest spammer in the HoF forum, though superslug is giving me a good run for that title ;) )
My RL name is Marcel, and I'm from the Netherlands, where I'll be graduating from the University of Leiden in about six months or so, with a degree in Biopharmaceutics.
My hobbies are sport (check the sports forum, I'm spamming there too), mostly football (european style), Backetball and American football. I also enjoy reading fantasy books. I've got an aquarium, which is my main distraction while playing civ. (It's always funny to see a Siamese Fighter fish chase Rummy nose tetra's, who'll just split up and drive him to desperation by coming in from both sides).
I've played civ since 1994 or so, but really got into the game with civ3, which is my favourite by a mile.

what's your favorite fantasy books and authors?

Hard to say. I'll just list a few I like a lot.

- Robin Hobb (Farseer trilogy, Liveship Traders, Tawny man)
- George Martin (Song of Fire and Ice), but he'd better get that 4th book out soon, 'cause I'm running out of patience
- Raymond Feist, but only the books about Midkemia and the Tsurani
- Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, but he's dragging it out a bit too long, IMHO.
- Dune, but I like the prequels by Herberts' son better than Herberts' own books.
Tad Williams (Otherworld, Memory Sorrow and Thorn)
-Most of what David Eddings wrote, though that's more for younger readers.
-Ian Irvine's books
-Jaqueline Carey (Kushiel's chosen, etc)
-Julian May

Overal I think my favourite is probably "Lord of Chaos", book 6 of the Wheel of Time, by Robert Jordan.

Me?! A spammer?!...oh wait, I really am a spammer...
So you're claiming the title for master HOF spammer, eh? You can have it. Personally, I use the HOF, GD and Strategy sections as a mellow vacation from the stress of my native environment: Off-Topic.

Anyway, did you prefer any MTG colors over others? Did you do tournaments or just casual? What sets were out when you played? I started with invasion, did lots of tourneys and always play red/black, sometimes splashing green.

By the way everyone, my real name is Chris. I'm also 28, single and strikingly handsome...well, to blindfolded people anyways.

@superslug: No tournaments, only casual...
I usually played with blue and white (sometimes black/red and green for blue/green for multiplayer)
I started playing just before 4th edition came out and the Urza series were just out when I stopped, though I've got some cards from that series (slivers, etc...)

You are reminding me of someone at the Infogrames Forums (official forums of the Publisher of Civ3). His name is Dragon Revisitted. Anyway, have you ever been at the Wheel of Time book forum there?

No, I haven't. Link please? :D

I'm glad to know that you aren't Dragon Revisitted stalking me.;) Anyway, here is the link (the Wheel of Time book forum is toward the bottom of the list):

http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/index.php?

Also note that I used to have zillion post count there; however, that number has been decreasing constantly because the Administrator there has been deleting old threads. Instead of archiving old threads, they just go ahead and delete them whenever their server is running out of space.

PS: Well, you guys aren't really a spammer.;) I know a spammer when I see it because I was once a spammer who spammed over 5000 posts without drawing any attention from the Mods. I didn't even get a single warning from the mod there (at Infogrames) either, not even one. Now, Am I a grand master spammer or what? j/k That was then, this is now. I have changed.

Darkness,
wow! you have a large list of stuff that i'm not overly familiar with. i'll have to look into some of those authors. my favorite author is R.A. Salvatore and most fantasy books that i've read have something to do with forgotten realms or dungeon & dragons in general. have read Dune 3 or 4 times and read Tolkien. i'm just about drooling waiting for the 'Return of the King' movie to come out.

Well, I'm not drooling, but I'm also quite eager for the Return of the King... ;)

Thanks for the link Moonsinger. :)

i may have overexxagerated my condition. while i was typing that, my dog was next to me drooling(cause i had some food). we tend to act alike sometimes.;) but, i am eagerly waiting on that movie. i just love giant, epic battle scenes!!

Just a quick note on the spamming issue: I've posted 59 times in the last nine hours. That puts me over Moonsinger's total count and I've passed Darkness' per day average.

Who's the spammer now?!:p

Okay, it's coincidence...I always post this much when my weekend starts, and OT's been fun today!
