Blackmantle
King
Yes it prevents units from going Barb if affected by rage (very likely burning blooded as well). (Unless of course i have insane luck but i have done it so often to say i am reasonably certain / state so with no doubt from my part.)
Crazy loyalists.

As for dying, that's when they are captured via subdue / command (even though AI has just recently started to use Subdue Animal / Command? so had not much cases to test this part).
Dominate does control units with loyalty (that one sounds like a bug, might even have been fixed in the meantime. Haven't tried on Orthus, which now usually dies rather fast, for some time...)
If the first part would be axed law sphere / loyalty would become to weak and situational (and law is far from a strong sphere anyways). And honestly it does make sense + i would even go so far as thinking quite surely that its intended (but not documented sufficiently in the pedia).
So imo if anything the description should be enhanced (and the effect expanded to include protection form domination as well) not the effect be diminished.
(Something along the lines of:
Prevents the unit from beeing subdued or controlled and dies instead as usual + prevents the unit from defecting to the barbs if raging.).
Anything else would be meta-balance for broken/incomplete old descriptions sake without any! value to the game imo.
If you mind that Calabim start with law-magic it might be intended to use Moroi + Loyalty (from a flavor perspective as well). And it seems quite useful indeed.
