I've read the minimum requirements for CIV 4 but since I'm not very tech-oriented I'm not sure how to make sure my laptop meets the requirements. Can somebody help me on finding out what I need in order to make CIV 4 run on my laptop.

What I do know is that I have the following:

Processor: AMD Athlon 1500+ processor (meets the requirements?)
OS: XP with SP2
Memory: 256MB RAM (doesn't meet the requirements so I probably need more memory)
Hard disk space: (I don't remember this since I don't have the laptop with me now but should be ok)
Video: This is the difficult part. I can find out thorough the device manager which video card the laptop has (S3 something as far as I remember) but how can I find out how much memory the video card has and does it have T&L support?
Sound: How do I find out if the sound card is DirectX9.0 compatible?

I'm not going to play any other PC games so all I need is a laptop which meet the requirements for CIV4.

Operating System:

Windows® 2000/XP

Processor:

1.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon processor or equivalent

Memory:

256 MB RAM (Windows 2000) / 512 MB RAM (Windows XP)

Hard Disk Space:

1.7 GB Free

CD-ROM Drive:

4X Speed

Video:

DirectX 9.0c-compatible 64 MB video card with Hardware T&L support (GeForce 2/Radeon 7500 or better)

Sound:

DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card

DirectX®:

DirectX® version 9.0c (included) or higher

It won't work on your laptop because your vid is crap. I'm not 100% sure if it won't work the only way to see if it works is to try it. But it will be crap to play (if you can play it) because the game uses a lot of memory. The game will only work fine a couple of turns.

I have 1 gig ram and the game uses almost 2 gig on highest.

Ps: almost all sound cards are directx 9 compatible just install directx 9.0c

There you can find if your vid supports tnl.

Thanks for the reply StreetX!

The video card on my laptop seems to be S3 Twister K with 32 MB. It is DirectX 9.0 compatible but it doesn't have enough memory. Adding some RAM on my laptop wouldn't be a problem but upgrading the video card is probably not worth it. I'll just wait and see when the CIV4 arrives and I'll try if I can make it work on this laptop. If not then I'll have to think of something else.
