Minor Fixes!

Does a game need to have traditions? It's just a game. :) But ok. It's nevertheless wrong that alphabet thing because civ does represent history and in history, the people learned it the other way round, but ok.... :)

@croxis the wonder stays special even when it just has its real name, ;)

and I especially like the fact that somebody finally thought of bringing a new idea for a minor fix. And really, it's true with the wonders, but I never thought of, marvels sounds good enough for me.. :)

whatever you call the pre-industrial areas (i.e. medievel/classical) etc. As Far as the "modern" age goes, that always will the whatever the current area is, even as tech progress. For example, Since Civ 1 techs have been addeded to the tech tree. Stealth wasn't known to the public when Civ 1 was released. The Internet was just this thing geeks used. Flight was also in the "modern" tech tree in Civ 1. Now it has been pushed pack an age.

Although flight in itself was started up in the Industrial Era, they couldn't make the fighters and bombers of the kind used in Civ until the Inter-war years. Flight should be part of the Modern Era, unless you change it to 'Early Flight' and put a 'proper' Flight in the early Modern Era.

I would like it if instead of the historical names in front of wonders it would just use the names of your great or scientific leaders instead if they are still around in civ IV.

As for the writing and alphabet, why not just combine them both into writing?

The late Industrial units of CivIII - fighters, bombers, carriers, tanks - represent a WWII level of technology. Computers and Fission are first tier Modern techs. Clearly, they're taking the Industrial/Modern split to be somewhere around 1950.

Now, one might disagree with that periodization, but they are being consistent here.

Inventing the alphabet before writing feels a bit like inventing music notation before music or indeed almost words before speech. Doesn't make sense, never has.

I mean it's not like they came up with a set of symbols and went: "Right, now that we have doodled all these nice little things down, is there any use to them?".

Here's my 2 cents

*I REALLY can't beleave your even arguing over the name 'middle ages'
*I think that MAYBE wonders should be called marvels. The term 'small wonder' is a bit of an oxymoron.
*@Spatula-Flight seems a lot more of the WW2 age with tanks. Although there was rocketry at the very end of WW2.

If you must know, while hitler was wipping out russia, they were trying to work on a last attempt before they got to the capitol (or some important city, I can't remember) and was able to repel them at what they thought would be the final battle of the soviets. With America joining the war, hitlers army has met it's match. Nazi germeny fell.

*I think that writting is documentation, but I'm not sure. Do whatever you want. But it would seem kinda stupid to be able to write before the alphabet.

It would be funny if we had to have 5 ages/eras becuase we become so advance.

And finnaly, STOP POSTING ABOUT NAMES.

I'm guessing you're actually just kidding, and realize that the USSR would likely have defeated Germany even without America fighting them. ;)

That's all pretty tough to say. We have to remember that the Russians were getting weapons from the Americans and British too. Hmm... The Germans could have pulled troops from elsewhere if the Americans hadn't joined the war. It's hard to say you know...

eh? i didnt get half of them bt i disagree, alphabet would come before writing in my book (no pun intended) its easy enough to hav a set of letters eg alphabet bt to have a readable system eg writing is another thing. writing isnt just physcially able to paint letters on the wall, they need cohesion :)

It would have begun with symbols representing different things. Those symbols would be letters. Those symbols were then put in "cohesion" to create a story. That's writing. It makes sense to me having alphabet first. I just see no need to change the way it is now.

The symbols were created as you went along. Only later was a true alphabet created to make writing easier and more logical.

I agree. I would prefer the tech tree to be a little more historical - or at least representative of what at least could have happened. It's impossible to conceive of an alphabet before you start using writing!
