Seen this with some of the scenario files, what does it do (besides seeming to put you at permanent war with everyone)

Can you have a Playable player with Minor Nation Status?
If so is diplomacy still disabled?
Do Minor Nations still get the benefit of their Leaders, UUs?
Do they get a WW bonus/eliminated?

It just means its not player playable. Outside of that I beleive it is exactly like a player civ. It doesn't start at war with anyone (thats the civ defined as the barbarian civ in the global defines). Diplomacy isn't disabled, it can have UU's and be elimated, its gets the benifits of traits, ec etc.

A lot of scenrio makers use them to represent enemies that aren't intended to played by players.

And yes they can be made player playable by changing the <bPlayable> attribute in the CIV4Civilizations.xml file from 0 to 1.

Very useful; thanks Kael, and Krikkitone for bringing it up. I can already see how I would use this flag!

Do the minor nations count as 1 of the 18 civilizations that a game of civ is currently restricted to?

Yes, I think they do.

Wait so does the "Minor Nation" status flag actually DO anything (if they can be made Player Playable, and the only effect is that they aren't playable...?)

Is it just like a 'comment' ie this player shouldn't be playable?

And in that case, what flag is it that keeps me from negotiating with the Vikings and Byzantines in the Earth 1000 AD scenario?

someone answered it in another thread, basically it seems that Minor Nation means Always War, Can't win
(always at war, no Spaceship parts, can't be elected Secretary General...doesn't seem to sow up on the score) I'm guessing they don't have any War Weariness, because otherwise after a certain point they would collapse.

This sounds right as there's a different XML node that controls PlayerPlayable, followed by AIPlayable.

I had just thought that the Vikings and Byzantines had their "pissed off" threshold so high that they'd never talk to you. But what you say sounds right!

I believe the file name is CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml as opposed to CIV4CivilizationsSchema.xml
