It did. All species are attracted to the most survivable/pompous individual of the opposive sex, therefore the female attractive human body must have it's finesses as well as the logical attractive male body is muscular and survivable.

The most common order in the natural area is that the males attract the females with impressive colors or huge features (Birds are the most logical example here), but primates has the opposite order, making the female the attractive with features, and the male has gotten the... Well... Practical junk.

Therefore, a good 'healthy' couple in the more primitive aspect of our civilization was a beautiful female and a strong male, making, in this case, a beautiful, healthy female child, which is attractive from her mother, and has strong genes from her father. The popular walks hand in hand with the popular, you know.

Sexual preferences are extremely varied. While there are of course people who prefer similarity (like you propose), there are also a lot of people who prefer diversity. I don't think you can find a general rule there, there's *way* too much variation.
