"Mission Failed. All progress towards a space race has been lost"

I assume you can close the first screen after placing your part, then reopen it during your turn and see the percentage, I don't see any reason to hide it on the first screen.

If you do launch from that screen, does it launch one turn earlier than waiting until your turn starts to launch? I guess that could be considered an advantage: if you want to launch a turn early, you don't get to know the chance of success. I suspect, however, that was not intentional.

What does the original game do? You can tell how recently I've gone for Space Race. ;)

That's true, but no one will know that until their first spaceship is lost and they go on looking for an explanation.

In the original game you win as soon as you hit the launch-button. You don't need to wait for the ship to reach Alpha Centauri. Your mission success probability is always 100 %.

Ah, so at minimum it should say, "Launch now, or wait 1 turn to calculate the probability of success."

Oh, since I found this thread from the linked post above in the Unofficial 3.17 Patch thread, I had assumed this was a bug introduced by by the UP. Now it seems this is a problem with 3.17 itself that you're hoping the UP will address. Is that right? If so, I agree that the probability should be shown immediately.

Well, you guessed it correctly the first time, you can close the spaceship window and then open it again to view the success probability.

Oh, yeah, I haven't even tried the UP, I was hoping it could address this bug. Someone would've already said if it already did this. This bug has probably been present in all versions of BtS.

Has anyone ever done this by nuking the enemy's capital and then using a massive amount of paratroopers to take it ensuring a space race victory?

I doubt it. That would be as rare as using city-raider promoted pratoreans to attack a city in the early game....
