Mod Component Requests Thread

How about a ship that can sail on rivers? Is there a modcomp like that?

there are couple little things that i would love to be able to do but havnt figured out how to yet. so maybe someone can either take care of this or tell me where the nessary files are so i can do it myself. anyway id like a way to keep track of the event tasks they give you. you know like build 9 stables to finish the horse whisper. when i save a game and come back to it later i sometimes forget i have one of those going or ill mix it up with a previous game and start building the wrong thing. so id like a log of the tasks they have assigned you. :)

Isn't there a dialog box you can open at the top-left?
I'm sure it has a tab for quests.

Yes there is a log screen already in the game that lists all your current quests.

In order to allow ships to move along rivers requires a SDK change. Now The Hand of History will contain the ability to program this in (yes I'm still working on it). ;)

I don't know if one is in existance yet but I couldn't find one if so.

A component that allows for more/different map sizes would be great. Mainly I am talking about Bigger maps. something generic enough that you can plug it into other mods without too much fear of conflicting issues.

Really all I want is a map about twice as big as the HUGE ones.

Please let me know if one already exists. If it is too hard to do. Or if someone feels like taking up this project.

Thanks

I have a humble request of the master Modmakers here. I am not a modder myself, so I do not know how difficult this will be. I've searched all aover, and can't find an existing mod with this effect, so...

I'd like someone to make a mod that lowers to increments used to manage your economy in the game. Right now, you can only raise or lower your Science, Culture, or Espionage in 10% increments. This feels like too much to me. A mod to change to 5% or even 2% increments would be wonderful.

I hope this is do-able, please respond to let me know either way.

As an ardent believer in Blitzkrieg I feel that Civ 4 does not give the bonuses of accomplishing such tactics. For example, in the game there are no LOC or supply lines meaning that encirclement is meaningless. The most proven strategy of Civ 4, taking a broad front and simply just seiging cities and then taking them, has been proven (most of the time) to be ineffective in real life. The point I'm trying to make is that creative strategy is worthless (Think MacArthur in the Korean war at Inchon) and boring strategies make the game, well, more boring. Hence, someone should find a way to simulate the effects of encirclement and Blitzkrieg like offenses.

Also, I think that rivers should either be navigable or unnavigable, meaning that either all ships could go on a river or none.

I can imagine an espionage mod that attacks a civ telecommunications directly. "Any potential political or diplomatic dispute can now be expected to include a significant online component,"

In April, Estonia removed the two-metre monument from its original perch at Liberators' Square in central Tallinn and placed it in the more inconspicuous cemetery, sparking Russian outrage.

The Web sites of the Estonian Prime Minister, Parliament, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications all went down.

He said attacks like the one that took Estonia's Web sites offline are costly and disruptive but not that damaging-- yet.

"The problem, though, is it wouldn't be that much more of an effort to move to that more damaging attack," said Mr. Lewis, director of the think-tank's Technology and Public Policy Program.

"Suppose they scramble all the databases? Suppose they scramble all the tax records? Suppose they scramble everyone's SIN numbers? Suppose they change your medical prescription? There's a lot of things you could do to damage information that would be messy."

Russia's online assault on Estonia is part of an emerging field called Information Operations. Many countries now have both a doctrine and capability to fight in cyberspace, which some argue has become a fourth theatre of war after land, sea and air.

I really want to give workers the ability to dig one tile canals, so ships can sail through them.

Yeah, I didn't know that

I really don't know where to ask this question so I might as well do it here; Is there an easy modification to do that would make city naming random? I almost find it boring that you can tell in what order the AI built cities if you start to remember the order in which names come up... I mean, Barbarian cities are randomly named from the list aren't they? So what about civs.
