[MOD] Fall from Heaven II

Good afternoon, or evening, or whatnot to Kael and the FfH team.

I registered for the sole purpose of being able to come here and thank you and your people for the mod. We've been following FfH since it's early conception and with the sole issue of the OOS-over-Lan issues a little back we've never ever been disappointed.

In fact, as I post this, I have four friends setting up their laptops and pcs here in my home to start a FfH marathon, we'll be here until tomorrow afternoon playing this latest release.

Wonderful work overall!

Forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place but...

I recently reloaded Civ4:BTS and FFH 2.031. I have the BTS 3.13 patch installed and the "e" patch for FFH. I can get the game to start, but after about 3-5 minutes of playing the game it gives me an error message and boots me back out to my desktop. Here is the error message:

Failed to allocate video memory. Please try reducing your graphics settings.

File:\main\Civilization4\SDKs\Gamebryo2_0\CoreLibs\NiDX9Renderer\NiDX9IBManager.cpp, Line:565

I've tried to set the resolution to medium and to low from the game option menu but this doesn't see to fix it. I've played it many times in the past just fine, but since I reloaded everything I keep encountering this problem. So any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Love this mod! My treehugging ljosalfar civilization spreads quickly across the globe. In my first game my capital was at size 64 at the end and still growing. That ability to plant improvements under trees is awesome. Of course mostly I love it for the roleplaying aspect.

Tips for winning religious victory? I had the spread way of the leaf into every city in the world, every AI converted (save Auric) and I still was only at 75%. Is my only option to raze every ai city that also has a different religion? I built purge the unfaithful but that only affected my cities.

Use Inquisition. This spell use to require a specific late game Inquisitor unit, but now is available through the Inquisitor promotion which is available to any disciple from the start (overpowered, imho). This lets you remove all non-state religions and religious buildings from any of your cities or from rival cities with the same state religion. It can't remove a religion from its Holy Citi, so you may need to raze those.

Hi,
After loosing a religious hero I quickly promoted a spell caster to healing lvl3 & created a healing node.
However Resurrection spell was not available while standing on the node (I had the spell but couldn't click on it), I thought there is an error - but when reading Resurrection spell description I saw that it could Resurrect a civilization hero, a religious hero wan't meantioned.

If this is a bug in the spell, then no problem (just a bug :) ), however if it is the only purpose of the spell I suggest to change it that any dead hero fitting the relevant CIV religion will be also available for this spell (event if died for a differnt CIV).

Cheers,

It has never worked on religious heroes. I agree that it should though.

.31 added the ability for this spell to also be used to create a champion when it is used on a graveyard improvement.

I have been trying to get it to (both playing around with it myself and asking the team), without much success. Once (pre-BtS) I thought I had it working, but then it seemd to break without me doing anything.

I really think this event should work through triggering an event, so you get to choose whihc hero you want to revive.

Does somebody know which file I have to change (and which values) to increase the chance of events happening? Even with living world there aren't that many events happening (Maybe 1 every 15-20 turns, which seems few).
I know that this was already written somewhere, but I can't find it anymore.
And while I am at it a few additional questions:
1 )Does your score affect the liklyhood of events happening?
Somehow it seems that if you are leading you get less events (or is it just my luck that nothing happens?).
2) If I play with many AIs is the chance that I get an event less than if I play with few AIs?

I second the question! I'd also prefer more events - Living World doesn't seem to help much at all..

I play almost solely multiplayer games and with a few event-exclusive oos's it's worked perfectly. Now when I updated to 'patch e' and the media pack for 0.31 thing started to break every 3-15 turns.. I'm wondering if this could have anything to do with me having the media pack installed while my friend doesn't? (Perhaps giving an oos when both systems can't change to the same music or whatnot?)

Does anybody know how?

How babies grow? You feed them. :P

Every time a baby spider wins combat it has a percentage chance(10% I think) of becoming a giant spider.

EDIT: Oh.. and since Giant spiders need to be declared to be able to give offspring, perhaps the same goes for their babies to be able to grow.. this is just speculative though.

Have you checked to see if this occurs with normal BTS game play as well? Sounds to me like either your either having problems with your graphics drivers or your graphics card is giving up..

There are some memory save options you can enable in the CivilizationIV.ini (found in \My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword) that might help but I'd recommend testing if bts runs like i should first. If it doesn't perhaps you should try other graphics drivers (newer aren't always better).

The first part is true: they grow by winning in combat.

But you're wrong about them needing to be declared: my HN Giant Spider had a baby :D and my HN Baby Spiders were upgraded.
Though, come to think of it, this was using the Fall Further modmod - maybe he changed the rules on this...

You needed to declare nationality in order to spawn units or upgrade units from combat until the last patch.

Actually, with Living World on, the chance of getting an event is 4%. So getting one event every 15-20 turns in above the average. I think there are two ways to change the percent chance, but I only can remember one:
*Go into the XML folder in the FfH mod, and open the Gameinfo folder.
*In that folder, there is a file entitled CIV4EraInfos, open it in Notepad.
*To do the modifications quickly, you use ctrl + f and search for the word "event"
*There will be a value of 2 in the line that has the word event in it, that's the normal percent chance of getting an event (WITHOUT the Living World option selected, which doubles the chance to get an event).
*Change that value to whatever percent chance you want to have at getting an event (I suggest 8 or 10, that's what I play with).
*You need to change the percent chance for every era, so continue searching for the word 'event' and change the value until you find yourself back at the top of the document.
*Save the file. You're good to go.

You will have to change that every time there is a new patch.

I don't think score affects the chance of getting an event, and I know that the number of AIs doesn't affect it either. It's just luck of the draw, really.

I hope this helps.

@Xenosaber: Thanks for the info!

@Kael: If the event probability can be changed individually by era, how about leaving it as it is for the ancient era and increasing it for subsequent eras? Subjectively - and I've read the same from other posters - it seems you get lots of events in the beginning and too few in the later game. This of course is due to the increasing length of the turns - seems to me this could easily be fixed in this way and many (maybe most) of the fans of this mod would like the change..

thanks for looking into the Sand fires Kael
