DOWNLOAD v1.0 NOW:
Final Fantasy Tactics Mod v1.0 for Warlords

I know it's my first post here, but I'm new to the Civ world and all I can say is that it is AWESOME. So, learning how user friendly it was in terms of modding, I set out to combine it with one of my favorite games of all time: Final Fantasy Tactics. I've spent a large amount of time creating an expanded world from the game (the fruits of which can be seen at www.fftrealm.com/forum, of which I am not the creator but I help with a lot of the information).

So, I've been able to create two new civs for the mod: Gallionne (from FFT, with Bestrada Larg as a leader) and one of my own creation, Sylvanye. Here are a few screenshots:

But, I need some help, seeing as how I'm a busy law student ;) I was hoping to find someone who is willing to help me mod the religions of the game (of which I'm having a heck of a time) or some other aspects of the mod.

Also, this is a huge request and I don't really expect to have it done, seeing as how it is mostly aesthetic, is to mod the units to look like the ones from FFT. Things like making Chocobos instead of horses, making FFT-like unit graphics, etc. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to make units/skin, which I'm sure modders/skinners get tired of hearing.

Anyway, I just wanted some comments, suggestions, and helpers. Let me know!

EDIT:

I just realized that I shouldn't have posted here without posting a download with files for what I've done yet. My apologies. It isn't much yet, but I can zip it up tonight and post it.

LIST OF NEEDS:

1.) Unit developers/skinners to create the FFT units.
2.) Someone to change the Horse resource to Chocobo, and change the on screen graphic.
3.) Someone to help mod the religions.
4.) Someone to help make a new victory condition of obtaining all of the "Zodiac Stones" to win.

For the Zodiac Stone victory, I thought it would be neat to make thirteen new resources, one for each Zodiac Stone in the game. It could be an alternate victory condition, where the person who controls all thirteen Zodiac Stone "resources" would win. Just a thought.

I thought it might be the wrong place too, but I didn't see a good forum for posting mod developments. The Project & Mod Development forum seemed too official for me.

I'm not used to reserving spots on forums. I'm used to just editing the original post, unless that's some breach of protocol here...

I would love to see the actually tactics gameplay ported into civ. with the square based maps and myriad units with levels and seeing what can be done with promotions in FFH... I think it would be amazing. epic size tactics style battles.... drool...

This should be moved to the main C&C, but I won't go zulu on you since A) it's your first 2 posts and B) it's a much needed mod for Civ4. ;) Good luck.

Ooh. Nice.

I was thinking about doing a Final Fantasy VI mod a while back, but Final Fantasy Tactics fits MUCH better.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, everyone!

FFT has always been my favorite game since it came out. I've wanted to implement it in several games over the years. I started fist by modding it into Age of Empires II, but wasn't impressed with the results. I also tried Medieval Total War and Rome Total War, but it was too difficult. But, after picking up Galactic Civilizations II and getting the hang of XML, Civ IV is by far the easiest to implement mods.

I'm going to get all of the kingdoms from FFT in first (Zeltennia, Lionel, Romanda, and Ordallia) before I put in the rest of my created ones. Once I get those four in I'll put the .zip up. Two civs without Civpedia references and such is kind of boring.

P.S. - Thanks for allowing my infraction to pass this time around ;)

I also updated the topic post with a list of needs and a new idea for a new victory condition.

This is sweet, I once played Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and i like to see this mod be available. I have one question though, is there going to be a RPG Turn-Based Combat System? If not then we need something unique for this game that can really beat the hell out of minor mods like Star Wars Mod, The Ancient Mediterrean and Ket's Composite Mod.

Well, I'm not that experienced at modding to completely revamp the combat system. However, adding the FFT units would be a big plus.

The FFT game revolved around the Zodiac Stones, which, in short, channeled evil beings into the world. I was thinking of each Zodiac stone being a resource that is randomly distributed around the map, and a Civ will win if they gain control of all 13. You could even give the controller of a zodiac stone the ability to use the "Lucavi" it summons as a special unit. But, that's all fanciful speculation at the moment.

I want to add the civs, religions, and art first to give it the FFT appeal. Then, if anyone is experienced enough to mod out the rest of it (adding spells or even modding the combat system) I'm more than up to it!

Some Advice....

1) Main C&C forum is the best place for this. But its cool...
2) Look into the CCCP for the ability to get some much needed extra tags into civics, building, units ect ect ect http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=184870
3) Get a playable out, even if its just stock units renamed and religions renamed and civics renamed and such. People who are interested in the project will offer to help if they see there is work being done.
4)[Just an example] Learn the XML a good deal of the front work could be simply in XML for example rename Horse to Chocobo set the correct resources change the name of pasture to Chocobo Ranch Rename Animal Husbandry to Chocobo Breeding and then pray that someone like woodelf comes along and does a chocobo resource graphic and button graphic that you could use.

Again if you build it, the community will help.

5) READ EVERYTHING YOU CAN on modding.

You have a darn cool project going there. I wish you the best. :goodjob:

I am not Trolling, i told him my opinion. If i was Trolling, i be flaming instead!

Edit:
By the Way, is there going to be a lot of Era's and Technology in this game? I like to see this game evolve on combat, classes, and upgrades as well. To start at the beginning of Final Fantasy Tactics, Mid-point of Final Fantasy Tactics, End of Final Fantasy Tactics, and Start of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. If you proceed to that, then this game will kick ass due to a lot of Technology and Endless gameplay as well. This might take a day or 2 to complete anyways depending our technology and war states and other victories enabled.

Speaking of victories, are there going to be any custom victories as well?

Thanks for the advice! I plan on putting an initial playable up this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled. Like you said, I'm going to try and do as much XML editing as possible and get the graphics later.

EDIT: If a mod has the ability to move this thread, go ahead. That might alleviate some problems.

Heh i just ordered final fantasy tactics from amazon.com and i loved the game. Being a final fantasy fan i might give this a go once its done.

I was working on a FFT mod for Civ3, but never got beyond the planning stage. Link's in my sig, feel free to use any ideas in there (combat values would definitely have to be tweaked for Civ4).

I uploaded a really early version of the mod for everyone to check out and see if it is worth continuing. Feel free to load it up and give it a whirl. The link is in the first post.

Just remember, I still need to fill out the Civilopedia information and work on some artwork for the leaders. Other than that, the programming is essentially solid for the current kingdoms I have added.

Basically it just contains six new playable civs with custom banners I made and a few new leader portraits (two from the actual FFT game and one just for fun that was drawn by a friend). I also changed the names of all the religions and added a few icons for one of them.

It's enough to get it off the ground, but it still needs mroe time. I just thought I'd get some opinions thus far.
