(Mod Idea) Building Extensions for VP

Okay so here's the idea:
Every Building gets an 'extension' option which is unlocked by building the standard building (or it's UB replacement). This will be a less efficient use of hammers than the standard ones, but will allow you to get extra yields of a certain type and potentially extra specialist slots. Not sure if these should just be more buildings or maybe projects.

This would mean there is too much to build to build everything so you'd have to specialise cities more, rather than just build everything everywhere as people complain is the case.
Also may give the AIs on high difficulties something to do with their hammers rather than just build infinite units.

Thoughts? Also has this been done before?
 
The idea is great but i think there is kind of a similar mod concept on steam here. Not ttly smilar.

Why not just increase production cost of everything by like 200%? If you add a lot more buildings there will be yield inflation.

Order, Progress and fireaxite company will probably need to be rebalanced too along probably a host of other things that make building infrastructure more rewarding/easier.

For the record, I'm fine with every city being quite generally minded with just some niche choices like local luxuries, guild cities, defensive frontier, diplomatic unit cities.
 
As long as you don't touch the gold giving buildings, I think the concept is great and would actually benefit long-term gameplay.

The idea of having more specialization for cities is something that already has me hooked as it could really open the doors to much more strategic play.
