I have a few ideas for mods that would use and expand upon BtS's espionage features. I have no modding skill or expirience, so i have decided to post my ideas so that other people could comment on them and modders could pick up on them. Here are those Ideas and a short explanation for each:

-A Cold War Intelligence mod in which you would play as the intelligence organs of the major nations of the Cold War. The CIA for the USA would be playable, along with the KGB for the USSR, the SIS for the UK, the DGSE for France, and the various East Bloc intelligence services. You would not play as a nation, rather, they would be computer controlled. You would be based in your respective nation's capital and you would send you Intelligence officers to do various duties. You would establish spying rings, control agents, and manipulate global politics in the favor of your nation. You would not try to achive any of the standard victoy conditions, but instead you would try to achieve a "global influence" victory by trying to turn global opinion to your way of thinking.

-A Modern-Day Intelligence mod similar to the Cold War mod listed above. Besides the timeline, the other major difference is that you would have to take on the role of counter-intelligence organization and fight off the agents of other nations and those of organizations that are not directly tied to any government. Events would not be so

-A secret organization mod that would play with similar mechanics to the Modern mod non-government organizations. They would play for global in fluence and money. This would be a highly adaptable mod that could be themed to several things. James Bond or Metal Gear mods, anyone?

Please reply and vote on which mod do you think would be better.

The last choice would be perfect for an X-files/X-com mod. The alien civ would use a more espionage-based style of play (less focused on direct war and settling, more espionage) while the terrans would have the default. Check out the SuperSpies mod before you start, as it likely has some of what you desire.

Two things:

One: Where Can I find the thread/mod you described
and
Two: An X-Files Mod or anything involving aliens just doesn't seem like it would suit the last idea very well. The idea just seems a bit to out there (no pun intended). I was thinking more along the lines of Metal Gear, Mission Impossible, James Bond, or Splinter Cell mods.

Thanks for posting, do you think you could tell a few people about this thread? I would like to see that these mod ideas can be realized, and to do that modders and people with good ideas would be needed to do that.

Super spies mod:

(FYI there is a search option in every thread).

Basically I was thinking an X-files type mod would work in an asymmetrical way. The aliens would basically run a spy network, with the only normal civ elements of their empire being the need for bases (cities), and only being able to create units that are stealthy and hidden nation. The human civs would play a conventional game to try to eliminate the aliens. It would fit you mod in that one side is espionage/conspiracy based, and both sides could have expanded espionage options (basically investigators vs. conspirators).

I guess you could do that, but i'm not a modder, thats why i need people to post on this thread who are modders, who know about modding, or who have good ideas/suggestions relating to the ones posted already

P.S. Super Spies is just a espionage mechanic change. I am proposing something more along the lines of mod/scenarios. The "regular civs" in my mod ideas would all be AI controlled, with only the Agencies/Organizations being human player controlled.

The promotion system there adds some flavor to the overall espionage-style game. To make it a special game you'll need some kind of espionage interactions beyond the base BTS game. I'm not sure what else you would want, except maybe the ability to build spy buildings in enemy cities, or espionage-related events and quests, and maybe regular units with some espionage abilities (like spy subs / spy planes).

P.S. Super Spies is just a espionage mechanic change.

This sounds very difficult.. but my best guess is you'd have to almost whole sale remove the normal options (eg what a city builds, what to research..) from the player and have AIAutoplay do them (redirect keyboard + mouse inputs?). There would also have to be a considerable expansion of the espionage options (heavy SDK stuff).

I'd think you may be able to build a team around an X-COM mod. This would give clear focus to this idea, and it maps well into BtS (infiltration, hidden nationality). Instead of another planet there could be a main continent with a bunch of civs, and then an island (representing the alien world, with different terrain graphics like in FFH). The end-goal tech would be building a ship that can traverse ocean so the island can be invaded :) The aliens could air-drop (very long range) spies, etc.. onto the main land. This would be reasonable to do, possibly wo/ SDK even. But now that I've said all that it doesn't sound quite like what you want, so maybe this should be a new thread?

Lets keep to one thread for now.

Another idea similar to yours is a world map with an extra island of undisclosed location. The countries of the world would be AI controlled and you would be a Dr.No-style supervillan trying to achive world domination through things like subterfuge and support you, your henchmen and loyal minions, and you island by stealing money from the contries of the world.

If we(actually you or someone else) could put a modding team together(I can't mod, I'm just don't know how) to do this, it would probably end up being a very good mod
